Sue | 2778 comments This book is based on the real-life crash of American Airlines flight 587. Departing from JFK in New York to Santo Domingo, most of the passengers on board were Dominican. There were no survivors.

In this fictionalized account, a man with two teenage daughters is on the flight and is killed. But the two daughters have never met - never even knew the other existed. Yahaira is from his life in America. Camino is from his life in The Dominican Republic.

What follows is a wrenching story of sudden grief and the betrayal each daughter feels when she learns of her father's other life.

This was an amazing book. The stories of the two daughters are heartbreaking. The book was wonderfully written, but very emotionally raw.
