Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments Our runner up was Episode Thirteen. Reading begins on Dec. 1st and last all month. Please, please use spoiler tags. If you don't know how, please just ask and someone will show you. Happy reading!

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 7707 comments I own this and haven't read it yet. Hoping to join in both!!

The bookish Witch - die Bücherhexe | 24 comments I don't know. I have only time for one. I think I will skip this and give "September House" a go. What do you think? Or is "Episode Thirteen" the better pick?

Icy-Cobwebs-Crossing-SpaceTime (readingreindeerproximacentauri) | 217 comments Both are excellent!

Stuart (stumueller) | 4 comments Think I'm gonna go with September House first and if I get it finished I'll move onto this one

destiny ♡ howling libraries (howlinglibraries) | 322 comments I absolutely love this book and might re-read it!

Phil (Theophilus) (prattleonboyo) I've got Episode Thirteen in my reading queue. September House does not particularly appeal to me due to the fact that it's more cozy than horror.

Not sure I would label it "cozy"--LOL! (I did love it though)

McKensi Ensminger | 12 comments I read this a few months ago and the last 25%ish DRAGGED on for me.

LTJ (ltj81) | 2020 comments Wow, this description got me hooked! I just bought a copy and will be reading this in December, yay :-D

Anabella | 94 comments I just borrowed this book yesterday. Didn't know it made runner up. So what to do we do? Come back to this forum to discuss? Never know how these groups work.

Alison | 27 comments I really liked this book and thought it was fun!

That's pretty much it. Read the book, make comments as you read (be sure to use the spoiler tags to avoid ruining the story for others), ask questions, seek opinions, and generally just enjoy reading and discovering a new book.

Just remember to use spoiler tags when discussing specific plot points and twists that could spoil things for others who haven't gotten that far.

Yes. Absolutely!

I heard that September House is more cozy/ less horror too. Hoping Episode Thirteen has some scariness to it.

Anabella | 94 comments I'm not liking it so far. Very boring. Don't like a couple of the characters already.

Christine | 33 comments This was such a bizarre read. Just finished it via audio and read along. I am also a gamer, and this screamed Ghost Exorcism and Phasmophobia. I thought the interviews and recaps were entertaining. There were some eerie undertones to those who experienced phenomenons, but that was the extent of the scare factor in my eyes.

Anabella | 94 comments Anabella wrote: "I'm not liking it so far. Very boring. Don't like a couple of the characters already."
It was dragging from the start. Fast forward 100 pages or so. Definitely eerie and a little unsettling now.

Stacey | 16 comments I enjoyed it overall. I love a good epistolary novel, though. I ended up listening, which may have made a difference. Some of the production was a bit over the top/not my thing, but overall it worked well.

Ron Thibeault | 8 comments Just starting Episode 13. I hope it’s good .

Ashley Cael | 24 comments I sat on this one for too long, I preordered it as I have enjoyed many of Craig's other works but just stuck it on my shelf. I'm glad to have finally gotten to it! I love epistolary style and found footage tropes and this was the perfect level of really weird/what is happening for me. I physically read this, but I really wish I would have listened to the audio because it seemed like it would translate very well to that medium.

Diane (I'm moving! And behind! BRB ASAP) | 52 comments At 20% complete in audiobook.

Just heard the chapter describing photos from the Foundation's experiments showing some of the horrors they inflicted on their subjects. I really like how the author depicted the researchers as humans (flashing peace signs, laughing, eating, etc...). not monsters. These weren't crazed serial killers or monsters torturing those poor volunteers. They were people. Clever to link some of them to the real life Milgram experiments.

Anabella | 94 comments I'm done reading. Some chilling parts but a little confusing too.

Ashley Cael | 24 comments Diane wrote: "At 20% complete in audiobook.

Absolutely, I think the humanity of the entire thing is what made it so eerie. I am a huge scaredy cat in real life but I would also be tempted by my curiosity .

Diane (I'm moving! And behind! BRB ASAP) | 52 comments At 44% audiobook- Claire being horny over science is the most unrelatable thing in this book. lol, but seriously this book is really holding my interest so far and has had 1 pretty spooky (to me anyway!) scene so far.

Diane (I'm moving! And behind! BRB ASAP) | 52 comments Ashley Cael- sorry I am on my phone and not sure how to reply properly using that. I'm pretty easily rattles in real life too- but after seeing what they saw I can imagine being too curious to walk away, too.

Most of the characters are ok- the one I like most is Matt. The one I like least is Kevin, but I like them as a group enough to care about what happens next.

Ashley Cael | 24 comments Diane wrote: "Ashley Cael- sorry I am on my phone and not sure how to reply properly using that. I'm pretty easily rattles in real life too- but after seeing what they saw I can imagine being too curious to walk..."

Yeah Claire was very unrelatable to me as well, I still liked her but the relationship between her and Matt just seemed so unlikely. I think all of the characters definitely grew on me except for Kevin, he was an annoying blowhard the entire time and reminded me of a lot of people in real life!

I think it was overall pretty scary, the last like 100 pages were really gripping in my opinion, but I personally loved the way it ended.

Diane (I'm moving! And behind! BRB ASAP) | 52 comments Just finished! I really enjoyed this! definitely a good, creepy, read. Solid characters and a good story. I loved the philosophical section after the scares- that was unexpected. Looking forward to more books from this author.

Leigh | 30 comments This was a fun read! I'm a sucker for found footage movies so I liked how the format of this book was pretty similar to one. Bonus points to references about the human potential movement and the CIA/ lsd experiments. The last parts of the book when they were in the labyrinth was a lot fun, and I enjoyed Claire's revelations about the nature of the ghosts. Unfortunately, I never really felt any attachment to the characters, except maybe Jessica.

The term "mental gymnastics" comes to mind. It would have been nice to have had more about their dynamic to bring their relationship to life a little more.

message 32: by Bo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Bo | 44 comments A fun, easy, spooky read with a great relationship at the center of it. It reads like a found-footage horror movie, but grander in many ways. It's not revolutionary in any way, but a nice, creepy read for a winter's day.

Tiffany King (tifking73) | 90 comments I started a little late. I’m about 45% done with the book. I’m going to reserve judgement until I complete it.

Diane (I'm moving! And behind! BRB ASAP) | 52 comments Hope you like it, Tiffany!

Angelica (angelica221) Wow! I started the book yesterday and just finished it. I really enjoyed it. But I am a sucker for the documentary horror films so this was right up my alley. Kind of gave me the Grave Encounters 1 and 2 vibe as I was reading it.

I kept thinking of Grave Encounters, too!
