Kristin | 39 comments The two authors David Marshall Brooks and Percy Bysshe Shelley both wrote a book called "The Necessity of Atheism." There has been confusion both inside and outside of GoodReads; people frequently confuse the two and attribute the wrong author to one or the other work (the confusion seems to go in both directions).

I discovered tonight that somehow their books got combined and I've been attempting to separate them.

The road block I've hit (and perhaps what lead to their books being combined in the first place) is that for several editions the book image lists one author but the GoodReads data lists the other (see editions listed below). I'm struggling to figure out which (the image or data) is correct for each. I'd like some feedback before I make any more changes. What is my best course of action here?

Editions I've identified with this issue:
The Necessity of Atheism ISBN 9781091618497
The Necessity of Atheism. AISN B005GE7N3C
The Necessity of Atheism ASIN B09P1MNTT7

When I search the ISBNs/AISNs outside of GoodReads, I'm getting conflicting info. Is there a reputable ISBN lookup site that I can use to get a definitive answer? I have tried looking through the change logs to pinpoint the source of the mix up for each of those 3 additions, but I am struggling with that. Additionally, I'm not sure I would even trust the original import data because there is so much confusion between these two authors.

An even weirder bonus problem, for this edition both the image and data agree that the author is David Marshall Brooks, but I'm fairly certain that is actually an image of Percy Shelly. What on earth do we do with a situation like that?
The Necessity of Atheism ISBN 9798773112037

Kristin | 39 comments Update on this: I flagged the book cover changes (all imported by either Amazon or Onix Ingram) in the change log and added a note that the cover and data don't agree. I hope that was correct to do.
