Ben-omi Siol-Torquil | 2 comments I'm hoping to find the title for a book from my childhood, so it would have been published early 80s or earlier. It has a family that lives in a bed that ends up flying at some point. It's not Charlie and the Chocolate Factory :). The book has a lot of very colourful pictures. There is one child who is overweight and wears striped pajamas. The father of the family works in a bottle factory, or maybe a bottle cap factory where he is surrounded by dozens of brightly coloured bottles that he puts caps on. I think there were grandparents in the bed too, but I'm worried I'm conflating with Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

Or maybe this one: Bob and Bobette: Flying Bed No. 2 (Bob & Bobette) by Willy Vandersteen by Willy Vandersteen. Though finding an English version could be a challenge.

Thanks for the very quick response! Mary Norton's book is the one I keep running into when I try google searches, but that isn't it. The colours in the pictures pop a lot more; I would say almost as much as Ul de Rico's "The Rainbow Goblins" which was another book I read as a kid.

Perhaps try excluding Norton from your Google searches using a hyphen. For example, you could search Goodreads:

site:goodreads.com -norton [etc...]

A magical bed takes off in amazing flight with the Snozolas and Shakespeare the spider on board.

Mir | 805 comments Could it possibly be The Bed Book? That doesn't have a plot and is just "imagine different fanciful beds" but there is one that flies (also a submarine bed and a snack dispenser bed, I remember) and the illustrations were pretty vivid to me as a child.

Emily (linnet_11) | 35 comments Is this Mr. Pudgins by Ruth Christoffer Carlsen? I think it’s a flying bathtub, not bed but otherwise maybe fits?
