Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) | 5 comments Here are some ideas I'm having for the prompts. 😊

1. Dressed to the Nines (Formal clothes on the cover)
2. 999 (British Mystery)
3. 9 Lives (Cat on the cover)
4. 911 (First Responder Story like Firefighter or EMT)
5. One for Janelle ❤️ ✓
6. Nine Patch (Quilt on the cover)
7. Nine in Title or on the Cover
8. 9th in series
9. Any other 9 (in page count, year published, # of chapters, etc.) ✓

Murder, Handcrafted (Amish Quilt Shop Mystery, #5) by Isabella Alan Murder, Handcrafted is a cozy mystery with a cat (#3) and a quilt (#6) on the cover, a Sheriff plays a key role in this book (#4), and I think Janelle would have liked this book (#5).

Lord Edgware Dies (Hercule Poirot, #9) by Agatha Christie Lord Edgware Dies is the 9th book (#8) in the Hercule Poirot series, which is a British mystery (#2) with a man dressed in formal clothes on the cover (#1), and Janelle read and rated this book 4.5/5 stars (#5). Also this book was first published in 1933 (#9).

Nine by Rachelle Dekker Nine is the title and is on the cover (#7), was published in the 9th month of the year 2020 (#9) and the author was born in 1986 (#9).

The Sign of the Twisted Candles (Nancy Drew Mystery Stories, #9) by Carolyn Keene Published in 1933 (#9), The Sign of the Twisted Candles is the 9th book (#8) in the Nancy Drew mystery series and has the series #9 on the cover (#7).

The Case of the Missing Marquess (Enola Holmes, #1) by Nancy Springer The Case of the Missing Marquess is a British mystery (#2) and on its cover a cat can be found (#3) as well as a girl in what could be considered a formal dress (#1).

Private Justice (Newpointe 911, #1) by Terri Blackstock Published in 1998 (#9), as the first book in the Newpointe 911 series (#9), Private Justice has 911 at the top of the front cover (#7) and firefighters are a big focus in this book (#4).

________________________________________________

Mysteries I actually read this month that worked for prompts:

This Present Darkness (Darkness Set, #1) by Frank E. Peretti This Present Darkness was first published in 1986 (prompt #9) and this is a book Janelle enjoyed reading at least twice (prompt #5). ✓

I've found it difficult to fulfill the other prompts with the books I'm reading this month.

Louise | 6 comments I am afraid that this year I will not be able to do all the prompts for March Mystery Madness (2024). I will attempt to complete the following:
#2 - 999 - Set in Darkness (Ian Rankin)
#3 - Cat - Thrice the Brinded Cat Hath Mew'd (Alan Bradley)
#9 - ??? - W is for Wasted (Sue Grafton) -published in 2016 ... 2+0+1+6 = 9
If time permits:
#9 - ??? - Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead - (Olga Tokarczuk) - 9 words in the title...on cover it says it is a 'literary murder mystery'

Mark Baker (carstairs38) | 327 comments Between getting sick, the craziness at work, and trying to get ready for a vacation, I don't think I'm going to get a written list together.

However, I'm still reading, so I will share what I read.

I'm starting off the month with Black List, White Death Two Holmes on the Range Novellas (Holmes on the Range Mysteries) by Steve Hockensmith Black List, White Death by Steve Hockensmith This is two novellas in his Holmes on the Range series, which features two cowboys solving crimes inspired by their reading of Sherlock Holmes tales.

I actually had an ARC of this book, and I'd agreed to read it in March before I knew of the theme. But I can make it work since the stories are set in the 1890s.

Mark Baker (carstairs38) | 327 comments I was planning to finish out the Quilting Mysteries by Mary Marks this year, but I probably would have waited until later in 2024 to read Knot Ready for Murder (A Quilting Mystery, #9) by Mary Marks Knot Ready for Murder. But then I saw the prompts, and I had to read it this month. Why? Because this is book 9 in the series.

Mark Baker (carstairs38) | 327 comments Another book I bumped up to fit the theme. I would have read Lone Wolf (Orphan X, #9) by Gregg Andrew Hurwitz Lone Wolf by Gregg Hurwitz at some point this year since I do enjoy the series and this is the latest entry. But since it is the ninth book in the series, I made a point of reading it this month.

SymphAdventures wrote: "I was wondering, for the Nine Patch prompt, if I could use a book that has the word quilt in the title?"

Technically the prompt is quilt on the cover - if the title has quilt in it, you could bend the prompt to say that's a quilt on the cover because the title is on the cover? That's up to your discretion though. You do what you feel is best for that one! As long as it's a mystery it counts for our event ^-^

You're very welcome! We're not strict on the rules, so bending the prompt a lot is perfectly acceptable, just so you know ^-^ I hope you enjoy your selection!
