I loved this. I'll admit I didn't jump into it right away but once I did. Man it was just awesome. I liked all the characters. Even the antagonist.
My favourite part was when she was the daughter of the tsar. And her relationship with Markov(Paul).
Haven't read it yet, but I'm planning on reading it next. Heard great things about it so I hope it doesn't disappoint.
I did not like it. I thought it was pretty predictable. The ending was too happy and I did not like Marguerite. Saying this, I will probably still read the next one just to see how it works with the dimension concept again.
I enjoyed this a bit after getting into it. My favourite part was exploring the different dimensions. I didn't like many of the characters though. I think Marguerite was very irresponsible especially (view spoiler)I also thought it was a little predictable (view spoiler)
Otherwise, it was pretty exciting and I do plan on reading the next one - if only so I have an excuse for getting to own that gorgeous cover in person!
Just finished it. I really enjoyed. No it wasn't my favorite book, but it wasn't too bad. I'm definitely going to read the second. And can I just say The Russian dimension was my favorite!
The cool things about this book were the dimensions the author created. The Russian Tsar dimension was my favorite. Actually it was the part where I was totally hooked to this book. I felt like, during the time on that dimension, both Marguerite and Paul showed their truest colors that were never showed up on other dimensions. I loved that there were so many possibilities happened between them in another dimension, universe away. Not really a fan of Marguerite anyway (view spoiler). Generally it was predictable but pretty enjoyable read. The ending was quite abrupt. That's why I'm going to read the next book to see how it goes.
I really wish I could like this book more than I did. The idea of traveling to other dimensions is fascinating! However I think I correctly guessed every major plot within the first chapter, so that's a huge let down. What I loved most about this novel was the narration. Picking up an audio version is always risky. But it worked for this one! I'm not sure how it was all written out, but I really enjoyed hearing all the different accents.
I'm listening to this on audiobook. As I pulled up into work this morning, I hit the Russian dimension! After seeing everybody's comments, I'm even more antsy to get off than I was before!
I loved this book--it may not be my favourite novel ever but I really enjoyed it. It kept my attention and moved at a great pace. Like everyone said, the Russian dimension was the best (really reminded me of the Katerina Trilogy's The Gathering Storm but without the supernatural elements). Some aspects of the plot were predictable (view spoiler) while other's weren't completely obvious (at least to me and I'm pretty good at predicting how things are going to go). You definitely get clues along the way that help you reach a certain conclusion earlier and I liked that dash of uncertainty. This book kept me on my toes which I had a lot of fun with.
And my post wouldn't be complete without commenting about those beautiful covers--LOVE!
Such an amazing story. At the start I was thinking about putting it down but then I got into the actual story and dimension travel and I was so amazed by the storyline. I think that it's something new compared to other books coming out at the moment. Definitely reccomend reading.
I really liked the story and the whole concept of the different dimensions but I did feel like there was a little too much romance and it wasn't always written well. (view spoiler)
Oh no i didn't like this book much..first it was good then as i read it further i just wanted to quickly get over with it.. As i read there will be different dimensions, it was captivating, u know. I thought the book would be full of adventure and stuff but NO..the middle was full of Marguerite's pathetic and lame romance..the love triangle was also not good... Then the annoying part is that Marguerite fell in luv with a ‘different' Paul, the one living in Russia...
Anyway the best part was the sumbarine part..
Nice concept. For me it was leisurely to read it and light. Not much of a WOW really but not much of a boohoo too. :) For anyone who wants a quick read on thriller, romance, and escaping reality for a few!
@Mikko: I agree. It wasn't really that deep, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. :) it's nice sometimes to read light books and when they're scifi-ish they are even better.
I loved the concept, and thought it was very well written. I found it a bit heavy to get into at first, only read a few pages and then put it down again. That changed when we hit Imperial Russia. Praise be to the fact that Marguerite got her period, that is a natural fact mostly skipped by other authors. I really enjoyed Henri, though he might seem a bit one sided in this book, his love for his family is so pure. I hated the spy Theo, and I really wanted him to die in the ocean.
Best part has got to be the different ways Marguerite and Paul remember their night together. I'll admit I laughed out loud, when Paul's first comment to what he remembers is: "I remember I had sex" Or when Theo tries to convince Marguerite of the eternal awesome of piloting a submarine.
I will read the next one, and the next one after that, I've got to know how this all ends!
I really loved this book and the dimensions in it. I could not put it down and I liked all the characters. I wouldn't have liked Marguerite if she had been an adult but I had to remember she was a teenager and acting like they do. I was exepcting an ending like that but not how we got to it. There were a few twists that had me saying wow, I was thinking something a little different.
As many of you, (view spoiler)
I honestly loved the book, it's true it's not the best book ever, but I thought it was highly enjoyable. The different alternate universe topic will forever be a favorite one for me. I am usually annoyed by too much romance, or the love triangles, but I wasn't bothered by this one for some reason?
Confession: I feel in love with Russia!Paul.

You know? Now that you mention it I think I felt the same. I guess it didn't bother me too much at the moment 'cause I knew there was a sequel? And although it was rushed, I thought maybe in the second book we'd take off where it was left with a better pace and explanation of events?

Wait, no, I know why I didn't notice it at the moment.
The ending to the book I read previously to this one was SOOOO rushed, this was a turtle in comparison hahaha

I really loved this book. I just finished it yesterday, and I thought it was amazing! Maybe it's because it was the first time I read something about alternate universes, but damn, I was hooked!I loved the characters as well. They're fun to read about and I love their development throughout the book.
I'm definitely going to read the other books.
