it’s a black and reddish cover and it’s not very long at all. i think there’s a boy with messy black hair on the front. he can talk to crows or at least can understand them. idk if he’s poor or homeless or an orphan but i feel like he’s alone most of the time. the crows r his only friends and they bring him shiny objects as crows do. that’s kinda the whole gist is young boy talks to and lives with crows.

If it's a picture book, maybe Crow Boy? Though probably not considering you specified upper elementary/middle school :)
