i am SO excited that we're finally reading the atlas six!!!! it's been one of my favorite series for YEARS! here's a link to my review of the first book: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
i can't wait to hear everyone else's thoughts!!
i can't wait to hear everyone else's thoughts!!
I read this forever ago and I remember loving the first book but I couldn’t get into the second ;( I really enjoyed the relationships between the characters good & bad, and how unique every character was
[Full review on my page] There is SO much happening in this book. It took getting through Libby’s first chapter for me to really get into the story, and after that I was hooked. There are a lot of moving parts and motives, and I enjoyed the complexity of it. I thought the balance between science and magic was really well done and wasn’t too overwhelming to digest while still getting a fully developed plot.
There were multiple instances where I thought the story was going one way and then it completely changed, which I think is a huge compliment to the writing. Each character brings something different to the table, and adding in their magician powers makes it even more exciting. Each character backstory is extremely well developed in a short amount of time.
Libby and Tristan - Probably my favorite characters.
Callum - Everyone loves a hot blonde villain.
Nico - I didn’t think I would love the academic rivals trope with Libby here but I like him and their dynamic more and more as the book goes on. #TeamNicoandGideon
Parisa - Absolutely diabolical.
Raina - I feel still needs her moment. Everyone else seemed to have an epic point except for her
Dalton- Least favorite character
(I caveat this first book review with sadness, because i HATED the second one)
I finished it but it was hard. I wanted to like it but it not very cohesive and didn’t really make me feel engaged as if there werenmt enough details.A year went by and I didn’t witness anything that they did or any bonding. It fell flat for me.
Same! I wanted to love it. It had me hooked but then I feel like nothing really happened. The characters were pretty well developed but not enough plot. I’m conflicted as to whether or not to continue the series. I almost always follow through with a series I start but I need more action. Has anyone read the other books? What do you think?
This is the first book (and so far only book) I DNF’d this year. I tried, but like everyone else said, I found it so boring. I’m also not a fan of different perspective storytelling, though two perspectives is starting to grow on me. But six characters total was too much for my taste. I only ended up caring about 2-3 of them, but the plot developed so slowly that even the characters I cared about didn’t have great chapters.I ended up looking up the plot for the entire series online, put the book down, and I’ve felt no regrets since then. No point in wasting time struggling through one book when there are so many others out there.
I also read the reviews for the rest of the series and it sounds lime books 2 and 3 actually devolve further. Some reviewes said they loved the 1st book but 2nd and 3rd were muche worse. Since I didnmt care for the first I probably wouldn’t bother with the rest of the series.
I loved this book, but I listened to the audio book which probably makes a difference. It was fun to hear the different voice for the characters, and made it easier to get through the “rambling.” I do agree we didn’t really see what they were doing or what the point of being there was, but I think that we weren’t supposed to know since Atlas is SHADY and, well, going behind the society’s back for his own gain. I do want to know what the society is doing and what it’s for, but I think we will get that answer in the second book. (Hopefully)
I need more on Dalton though, he’s up to something. I don’t trust him. He’s probably in cahoots with Atlas. I did love how each character is different and has their own backstory. I did not expect the love interest at all… but I love it!! Ezra is still shady and I still don’t trust him.
I think those are all of my thoughts!! I overall loved it. It felt like Harry Potter mixed with The Hunger Games, but the adult version. Can’t wait to read the next book!
This was fine. I was super excited to read it bc I had heard good things but it just never popped for me in a way that made it super engaging or made me not want to put it down.
olivie blake's writing, the atlas trilogy in particular, is very character driven, so if you don't like that, then the series probably isn't for you. i love character-driven stories, so i adore this trilogy, and i'm glad some of you are enjoying it as well!
I read it a while ago, kinda fell flat for me tbh. I reallyyyy wanted to love it, but I hate it when a book knows it's smarter than I am and rubs it in my face every three pages. The plot didn't seem to go anywhere, but at least the characters were interesting.
did this make me feel really dumb at first? yes. did i enjoy this by the end? also yes. once you get a grasp on the different concepts introduced in this book, it makes the experience a lot better. i may be in the minority but nicolibby!!!
Really disappointed in this…been wanting to read it for ages but just didn’t find exciting or entertaining except for the last little bit. I only pushed through as it’s on my 24 to read in 24 and I needed to colour in the square in my Bujo 🤣
