I have never been favored by the gods. Far from it, thanks to Zeus.

Living as a cursed office clerk for the Order of Thieves, I just keep my head down and hope the capricious beings who rule from Olympus won’t notice me. Not an easy feat, given San Francisco is Zeus’ patron city, but I make do. I survive. Until the night I tangle with a different god.

The worst god. Hades.

For the first time ever, the ruthless, mercurial King of the Underworld has entered the Crucible—the deadly contest the gods hold to determine a new ruler to sit on the throne of Olympus. But instead of fighting their own battles, the gods name mortals to compete in their stead.

So why in the Underworld did Hades choose me—a sarcastic nobody with a curse on her shoulders—as his champion? And why does my heart trip every time he says I’m his?

I don’t know if I’m a pawn, bait, or something else entirely to this dangerously tempting god. How can I, when he has more secrets than stars in the sky?

Because Hades is playing by his own rules…and Death will win at any cost.

(view spoiler)[ I can't tell you how much i loved Lyra and Hades together. Lyra and her interactions with all the people had me cheering her on and fearing for her life at the same time. OMG! her naming each head on Cerberus LOL. The feelings that flowed between Hades and her and how they both had these walls that stood between what they really felt. I can't wait to see where this story goes next. (hide spoiler)]

I confused this one and Wren in the Holly Library's start dates so have started this one a little early by accident.

This is interesting so far. I'm curious to know about Hades and Persephone’s dynamic was considering he's seeming to have no problem moving on with Lyra. I also want to know how she died. These Labours are going to be interesting. (hide spoiler)]

Part 3
(view spoiler)[ I'm loving her alliance and these labours have been fascinating so far. Her curse seems to be self-fufilling because she believes it, she's made it true. I don't think she will end up with no one for Aphrodite's challenge. Maybe that's how she'll learn / realize. I'm really glad she has an ally. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Omg no Boone, this is terrible. I had a feeling he wasn’t going to make it but this sucks. Aphrodite’s challenge and Dae’s grandmother dying was awful, the gods need to stop playing with the mortals like this, it’s not cool. (hide spoiler)]

Parts 6 and 7
(view spoiler)[ Oh my god she missed so many of the trials, she’s going to pull it off but there’s almost no way she can win now. She is so lucky she didn’t die and now she’s a wreck which I totally get but the games have to go on. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Oh my god what was that ending I need the next book asap. I was not expecting that at all. This is going to be so good, I can’t wait to see what happens next. I knew she was going to end up winning but I liked the suspense at the end as to whether she did or not because she died. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 1-26 (view spoiler)[This is really good so far! Very similar to Blood of Hercules. I like that she is helping too. I bet he is going to fall in love with her and that’s going to get rid of her “curse” (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 27-54 (view spoiler)[Im glad that she is making friends. I am wondering if he needs a new queen. It’s clear that they are both falling for each other too. Excited to see what happens next. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 55-83 (view spoiler)[her friend dying is so sad! But it’s clear how much Haydes cares about her even though he doesn’t say it. And that sucks for her that they were through three more things while she was sick. (hide spoiler)]
