Here is the discussion site for City of Thieves, winner of the poll on "Jews who inspire" -- our October 2024 book. Although the September books relate to the season and are extended through the 10th of October, this space for the October winner is ready when you are.

Lee (technosquid) | 25 comments A fast paced, action packed adventure story makes sense coming from one of the writers of the Game of Thrones HBO series. Lev was an interesting character and I enjoyed being in his head, and surprising yourself with previously unknown strength of will and capability as he ultimately did in a highly fraught situation is a good example of someone who can inspire us today.

On the other hand the Kolya and Vika characters didn’t have enough depth to them to make them come alive for me. I thought Benioff leaned on Kolya too much in an effort to make the book more light hearted, as if he thought the book needed that to keep people reading amidst the starvation, sex slavery, and massacres he capably described. Other readers may indeed appreciate that however.

Hi Lee,
Appreciate the comments.
I think Im the only one who has never watched The Game of Thrones. That said, since I haven't read the book yet, do you perhaps feel like an outlier based on your rating or opinion-
compared to other reviews?

Hopefully a member who as read the book will comment.
But it seems Grds has a major notification issue going on, therefore not many people are receiving them or emails.
