My Life in Dog Years question

My first German shepherd was dominant. She was as close to perfection as any dog I've ever had, fiercely loyal, courageous, level-headed, and sweet tempered. I believe she was what's called an alpha--to me a dog that wouldn't hurt a fly unless that "fly" were trying to hurt someone.
