No! Books are so important for everyone! It's horrible that people are restricted by what they read because for some reason we can't talk about some things. Like, if they don't think its appropriate, then that's fine, but just banning the books instead of ya know, reading different ones, is just stupid.
uh those books that are like "overcoming homosexuality" or "healing homosexuality and journeying to a straight lifestyle" should honestly be outlawed 🤦♀️ some books that are homophobic can be damaging even from just the title and it helps with society's expectations. But apart from that no! People should have access to all kinds of books and agreeing with @Skybird if you don't like some books you can just read others.
a lot of people say that fricking middle grade and young adult books should be banned because of sexually explicit content...but half of the time, there's nothing sexual at all. And on the occasion there is, its a fricking ya book. No ya books are about "LETS BANG THE HECK OUT OF EACH OTHER!!!" people just pay way too much attention to the things they don't like and forget that there are other things to the book too. Like, Looking for Alaska is challenged a lot because its somewhat sexually explicit, but the book doesn't revolve around sex. It revolves around other, much more important things that people always overlook.

@Em Yeah I didn't think about that. Overcoming homosexuality books should definitely be... not allowed.
also, don't you think there should be a law or smth that requires a book to be thoroughly reviewed AND ACTUALLY READ BY THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE before it's banned?

Yeah, I feel like people just ban random books for no reason.

According to PEN America, school boards, administrators, teachers, or politicians ban books.

Thanks!

parents should be on the list too bc parents can challenge a book, for any reason whatsoever, and literally almost every time the book is banned, with the people making the decisions almost never reading the book to see what it contains

True. My answer was just from what I looked up.

I think books should be age restricted but never banned. Any book. It's censorship and if you are of the age appropriate, you should have access to any book.
I would agree with that, but people always take advantage of things like that and reclassify children's books as adult just bc it contains some swearing or some queer content. just keep them in their respective sections, no need to restrict. I don't know of kids who brose the teen section of a library.
i don't think any books should be banned, period. there are so many amazing books that have been banned just because of one persons views, and it drives me crazy. like what? if you don't like the book, you don't have to read it. there are so many amazing and incredibly relevant books that are being banned just because somebody was a little scared of the big words they probably couldn't read.but also @em that's so real the overcoming homosexuality books are nightmare fuel fr
anyways that was my little rant

Yeah, I think that no books should be banned, because people need to see information, and be able to learn things. Like I think books should have things like trigger warnings, or if its sexually explicit to say so so really young kids know not to read it, but I don't think that anyone should try to actually stop people from reading a book. And, if we're talking about America there's the whole 1st amendment stuff, so we shouldn't engage in censorship either. If you (general you) have a problem with a book, there's a very easy solution.
Just don't read it.
And on the grounds of hate speech type books, I think people shouldn't write them in the first place, but giving permission to ban books at all would give the government too much leeway to classify whatever as hate speech just so it gets banned.
(I swear I'm not supporting hate speech, but listing the potential downsides for allowing any sort of banning)
i say no cs no one should be able to limit what someone can put on paper whether its what they believe in, what they think, or however creative someone can be. people should be able to write and say whatever they want, if you have a problem with a certain book just dont read it

yesss. i agree with the hate speech part too. its much to general, and people will certainly take advantage of it and broadly ban books they dislike to prevent critical thought. if you want to define criteria to ban a book, maybe it should be like sexually explicit material in elementary libraries (meaning there are sex scenes or vivid kissing scenes, feel like i need to clarify) or encouraging violence/suicide/cults or something else insane and depraved.

I think it's because those books contain homosexual stuff. as a Christian, I honestly don't care because I don't read them and some people do. it's their choice. and I don't think any books should be banned unless it's full on offensive or racist or something like that
The percy jackson books have Nico di Angelo as bein' gay and Will as being bi?!!? And u think a book which has gay stuff should be banned? (or not banned? lol)

Agreed (though I'm not Christian)
Agreed (though I'm not Christian)
there's people who will say that "gay" books need to be banned, while I personally don't agree with homosexual things, I'm not going to say they need to be banned because some people use those types of books as a type of safe place for them. just like Christian books or things that line up with my beliefs are a safe place for me, and some people might trying to be getting those banned, which I wouldn't like. so, most books should not be getting banned because by doing that it will be taking away something from certain groups of people. I really hope that made sense

Okay, that just means that those books should not be read by children. Why should it be banned for anyone to read?

I agree, this makes sense to not have smutty books in a school library. Many people and teens read them, but it is not something that should be included in a school atmosphere, in my opinion. Are the other books smutty or what is the reasoning for the others though?

How do they teach that to them? And what's the point of "turning" more kids gay and trans?
