How important are they to the story and are they worth reading?

It’s inner monologue to other characters. I think the 1.5 one was worth reading but the rest of them were unnecessary to me. I’m still reading the series and will honestly keep reading the novellas incase it reveals something new but they usually don’t.

You don’t need to read them to make sense of the other books, but if you want more insight and see scenes from other characters pov then I would recommend, but it isn’t necessary if you just want to read the books
