day Willis unwittingly tuned into a treacherous plot that threatened all the colonists on Mars, and it set Jim off on a terrfying adventure that could save--or destroy--them all!

I'm really enjoying this. I actually read it as a kid so some things are familiar. I'm pretty sure these are the same Martians from Stranger in a Strange Land.

I love the line "Every law that was ever written opens up a new way to graft." lol.
Heinlein was really antiauthority. The more I think about it the more I think Starship Troopers was satire.

I've just put this on hold at the library.

Hope you like it. These juveniles keep getting better.

Chad | 872 comments I’d like to read this one but I can’t seem to get my hands on a copy. My library system doesn’t have it.

I looked it up online and found sites where you can read a PDF online for free. I just googled Red Planet read on-line free.
There is another book with a similar title, so be sure you get the correct author.

Thanks, Rosemarie. I’ll have a look.

Chad | 872 comments I found one. I can read it on my ipad. So I’m in! Looks like a quick one.
Book Nerd, are you doing a Heinlein every month this year?

There are thirteen of them so I put one up every four week. I'm weird.

It turns out that I read this already. I've just finished my reread and it was a lot of fun. The story is exciting and it has a terrific ending.
My main issue with Heinlein is the complete stereotyping of the female characters. They're only good for cooking, cleaning and looking after children!
The Martians are wonderful!

I thought it had a great female character.(view spoiler)

Yeah, there were always stereotypes and like I said this is an old series for boys.
But I thought there were some good female characters in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Stranger in a Strange Land, and even The Puppet Masters.

She was wonderful!

I really liked The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. You can tell how his opinions changed over the years.

I just learned that there was a tv miniseries of this story. It's only 80 minutes. I'm going to watch it now.
It's on youtube. "Red Planet [1994] | TV Miniseries"
