The Debate Club discussion

Hey. I'm a random person who has been looking in on this group over the past month or so, and honestly, what the hell. I'm sure a mod will delete this before anyone can really see it, but I'm posting this anyways. First of all, debating is meant for topics that have two subjective sides. Most of the topics in this group are incredibly invalidating for many people and incredibly NOT your fucking business or places to be “debating” on. It’s embarrassing and ridiculous to see so many of you being absolute jerkwads and completely having no respect for anyone with your “opinions”.

Being a Christian and gay? Personal damn choice. Nobody here or anywhere else gets a right to debate someone else’s existence or their way of living, it DOESN’T affect you. You hypocrites claiming to be Christians and spreading hatred and intolerance? That’s NOT what the Bible or your fairy man in the sky told you to do on Earth so honestly shut up. Please.

Please ask before creating topics, you were right this will most likely be taken down. We appreciate your opinions, however, what kind of topics do you think should be more appropriate to add?

I had planned on leaving that message and then the group as well, assuming responses would only be negative and incoherent and stupid. Seeing as it's the opposite, though, sure, I have suggestions.

Taking down the topics I am listing would be a good start. Or talking to your mod team about it, because these are not okay to have up in any space. I am sure there are many more than I have listed that are problematic, but I don't have the time or energy to go through and critique every god awful decision made in this group.

1. Is Sibling/Relative Marriage Really That Bad?

This is . . . not a debate? That's incest and . . . what?

2. Is The Foster Care System Really That Bad?

As a former foster care youth, yes, it is that fucking bad. Take this down, for fuck's sake. This is NOT a debate topic and is so fucking hurtful to myself and others who might stumble upon it.

3. Can Christians Be LGTBQ+?

Again, this is a personal belief and a community you don't CHOOSE to be part of. You can be any combination of two things together and allowing debate on someone's religion and a literal biological factor they CANNOT choose for themselves (gender and sexuality) is invalidating and cruel.

4. Is The Bible True?

Please rephrase this to something along the lines of "Is There Solid Evidence For Religion?" or something. Because the current phrasing makes no sense.

5. Which Religion Is The Best Religion?

Hi. Not a debate. Religion is personal belief, you cannot rank an opinion. Not a debate.

6. Does Psychology And The Concept Of Mental Health Go Against The Bible?

This is heavily insinuating that mental health is a "concept." What the fuck? And "going against the bible"? What? How does a state of mental health that is scientifically proven to affect billions of people go against a fairytale book? This is rude and cruel.

7. What Role Should Christian Women Play In Society?

Hello religion-based misogyny and treating women like objects! Take it down. Take this shit down. Women are humans and should play the role of a HUMAN living in a world she should feel RIGHT to belong in. Christian women should not play any damn role. Minding their own business and keeping to their own faith would be a good start, but women are humans. Don't open a topic with potential to have men pop in and be fucking cruel to women. What is wrong with you all?

8. Is Climate Change A Real Issue And How Can We Solve It?

Hey, so again here's a scientifically proven, REAL issue. This is NOT a debate. The planet is being destroyed and you have real evidence. No Bible or government propaganda will CHANGE that. Not. A. Debate.

These type of thoughts and putting these things into the world? This shit causes death and suicide, you fuckass idiots. YOU DO NOT GET TO HAVE AN OPINION ON OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES UNTIL IT DIRECTLY AFFECTS YOU. If this seems rude and hateful, rest well damn assured that it is.

One of our priorities as debate club mods is including debates everyone wants to debate. I agree some debates can be controversial and offensive to some, but most have been requested, and we do not refuse them. Unfortunately, we will most likely not take down debates.
I understand your frustration on this though, and i completely agree about most of this.
That last part about this being meant to be 'rude and hateful' is not cool man. We do try and we appreciate all feedback but pleased dont be hateful about things we have been asked to do. I agree with you on these. But a lot of people dont. And yeah, the way you phrased this was quite 'rude and hateful' especially for us mods who do put a lot of time into this club.

Someone clicking a few links to give you a fancy title does NOT make you a moderator. You have a fancy title, that's it. Imagine being in foster care and seeing a debate group going "is it reallllly that bad?" Imagine being a Christian who is HORRIFIED of going to hell for being gay seeing many people DEBATING their existence. This is disgusting.

Anyways, I just came here to let everyone know how immoral and cruel you all are. Also tried one time to give harsh but reasonable feedback and immediately everyone resorted right back to their state of enabling and ignoring real, genuine issues in this world. I've never been in foster care, but i've done research and witnessed A LOT of shit thats happened in them. That debate is to open eyes to what is actually doing on in foster care. This is new generation a nd a lot of people dont have access to information like that. I was one of them.

And as someone who was a Christian and bi for YEARS before i was literally bullied out of the religion, yes i get it. I GET IT.

But discussing it and helping other people understand and see other views is not disgusting, creating a whole new topic to insult people is. I get where you're coming from, and i'm all for constructive criticism and learning how other people view our debates, but im NOT for outright insulting us????

I agree with Rory and Tessie,
for 1. I think if you're going to express your opinion you could've done so privately by messaging the mods about a change or generally writing something nicer instead of calling people names like "fuckass idiots"
2. Yes, some of these topics are blatantly disrespectful and downright cruel and should be taken down. There's no such thing as a superior religion because it all comes down to personal preference for each individuals beliefs.
3. I do think the Bible topic needs to be renamed maybe something such as-
"How historically accurate is the Bible?"
"Is this Bible accurate according to history?"
4. The point of some of these topics is for people to be faced with other people from different aspects of life who have different views and experiences that help broaden everyone's view of society so for a topic like, "Is the foster care system really that bad?" I would say keep the topic up, but change it to be more like, "What makes the foster care system bad?"
5. the sibling/relative thing is also a topic I feel should stay up because there are varying opinions on that or loopholes with say, step-siblings-
is it ok for them to get married because they aren't blood related or is it still wrong?
6. I think maybe THIS topic could be left up? Just with a different name that's more respectful. This way people can communicate with one another and the mods about feeling disrespected by topics or topics misrepresenting them

And also, what was the issue between Austin vs. an online club??? I know he got kicked out but, like, for why?

I agree on which religion is the best debate and I will see about adjusting other topic names. Austin did create that one and as mods we don’t really check other mods before letting them add.

You have no right to come on here, this group that Barnette and the Mods have worked so hard to create and maintain, and not only disrespect us but the club itself and the people in it. If I get permission, I will personally delete this topic and ban you from this group because I see no reason why anyone here should agree with you. You're really getting on my nerves. What the heck went on here? I'm a Christian, and I actually enjoy debating/discussing with those who profess another religion. Will I agree with all the beliefs? No. But I want to learn more about what others believe. Debates are supposed to be respectful, not turn into a full-blown internet rant session. Insulting a whole group of people is not the way to make your message heard.
