Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4974 comments I picked up The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie because the author, Freida McFadden, described it as a satire thriller. Even if you don’t like her books you can't miss them on the bestseller list. McFadden pokes fun at herself and the thriller genre in general, so if you are a fan of hers or thrillers then you might enjoy this.

Alice, a widow, sees her deceased husband Grant everywhere after his funeral, sparking paranoia and absurd twists involving mistaken identities and possible siblings.

Every psychological thriller cliché is stuffed into this story. It’s a satire of the genre, so if you are familiar with this kind of book and you will recognize every one she throws at the reader.

"The Widow’s Husband’s Secret Lie" is definitely not a masterpiece of literature but I thought there were many funny moments. The dimwitted main character uses LED, instead of IUD for her birth control and several other equally stupid situations.

McFadden does an outstanding job of poking fun at overly dramatic and predictable thriller novels and this was written with her fan base in mind. So if you are in the mood for a short, totally gripping, utterly addictive, and nail-biting crime thriller full of secrets and suspense, filled with exaggerated characters, give this a look.
