It’s the day before Halloween, and Junie B Jones is nervous. She’s scared of it, because of some things Paulie Allen Puffer told her. For example, black cats want to scratch you into shreddadles, real monsters trick or treat during Halloween, but they don't wear costumes, and bats love to live in your hair. However, the thing that made Junie B lose it was the last thing. Candy corn isn’t real corn?! Eek! During class, Mr. Scary, her teacher, is ecstatic that the next day is Halloween, but Junie makes a big fuss. Tattletale May, who sits next to Junie B, starts to scream “Junie B Jones is scared of Halloween! Junie B is a BABY! B-A-B-Y! Junie B retorts “Do you know what you are? A TATTLETALE! T-A-T-A-T-L-E! That spells tattletale! Mr Scary has had enough, and tells the girls to settle down. May continues tattling, saying “By the way Mr. Scary, Junie B was cheating on her test, and ate a sandwich during silent reading time!” Mr. Scary has had enough, and sends a note to May’s parents. However, Junie B is still scared about Halloween. What will she be? Back home, her parents tell her a story about the time her mom dressed up as Squirty the Clown, and scared Junie B’s grandpa silly. Junie B decides to be Squirty for Halloween. She tries on the costume, and it fits! She decides to scare her parents the next day. When they come home, Junie B pops out from behind a door and starts screaming. Her parents are scared, but laugh along. Then, it’s time for trick or treating. Junie B walks up to people’s houses and trick or treats. They get lots of candy, an apple, and some peanuts. It’s a great Halloween.
Reason for Recommendation: This book is a very fun book about Halloween, and is part of the classic Junie B Jones series.

It’s the night before Halloween. All of the monsters are decorating the house. They make food, put up streamers and ribbons, and blow up balloons. Then, they find the best costumes they have, and when the light breaks into the house, they fall asleep. When the monsters fall asleep, the children wake up. They’re dressed in all sorts of costumes, from zombies to fairies to princesses. They spend the entire day having fun playing carnival games, bobbing for apples, and riding on hay bales. When the time comes to trick or treat, they go in a group, getting candy from everywhere. Then, a princess points out that they’ve missed one house, which unbeknownst to them, contained monsters. When they knock on the door, a witch comes out and invites them in. The children all run away because the monsters aren’t in costumes. However, the monsters just wanted the kids to have fun with them, but have a jolly good time anyways.
Reason for Recommendation: This book is part of the classic The Night Before series, and depicts how monsters may get ready for Halloween.

It’s Halloween, and Pookie is going to be trick or treating. There’s just one issue. He needs to find the perfect costume. However, none of them fit. The bear is too hot, the dragon is too itchy, and the banana is too silly. There’s just one more costume, a ghost. Pookie puts it on. Eek! Is that a ghost? No! It’s a Spooky Pookie!
Reason for recommendation: This book is a simple but fun book about not knowing what to be for Halloween.
