I lost the habit of reading for no good reason. My oldest daughter has a malignancy which has responded to treatment but has reduced her life expectancy. I encouraged her to have a 10-year plan. I reflected on my advice and decided to take it myself. An individual will not know their life expectancy, but I decided to develop a 10-year plan for myself. So, I have decided to seriously focus on and develop areas of my life I had neglected. I organized my photos from birth to the present day. I wrote my memoirs, Daktari's African Venture, which shares my half-century as a clinician and surgical educator. I learned Swahili at an intermediate level, and so I decided to try to become fluent. I have a tutor, and I listen to Instagram Reels from Kenya. I am not starting anything from scratch. I realized before my book launch in 2026 that I needed reviews, which led me to Goodreads. I need to do 20 reviews for Goodreads. So, I decided it was time to re-read my favourites, with Graham Greene as one of those authors. Our Man in Havana seems particularly timely this week, given the President of the US's belief in a fabrication about himself, just like the drawings of the vacuum cleaner. I went to my storage and found 10 Graham Greene novels, but alas, Our Man in Havana is missing. I think I will read The Heart of the Matter and The Burnt-out Case and see if I still like them. I will publish the reviews. I hope some of you will review Daktari's African Venture next year when it is launched.
