I have 4 authors, I plan to read, with a Z in their name: Stefan Zweig, Olga Tokarczuk, Zadie Smith, and Lithuanian author Kazys Boruta (Whitehorn’s Windmill). I have 1 title with a Z: Berlin Alexanderplatz by Alfred Döblin.
I had this prompt in another challenge this year, so I had a head start searching my tbr, and every time I spot a Z, I tag it. The list is ridiculously long, and gives me space to do some mood reading. I could pair this with a reject prompt if nothing else calls to me.My default choice is something by John Scalzi. Whenever I start to do the equivalent of channel surfing with audiobooks, I know I’m headed for a slump. Scalzi is a good way to shake it off. Every time audible has a huge sale, I pick up one.
I’m happy to see people picking up Hurricane Lizards. It’s fun and diverse, and you’ll want to share little tidbits. It gives good examples to explain why a small change in average temperature can wreak havoc on ecosystems and food chains, and lead to extinctions.
I may read Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. But I also enjoy Elizabeth Berg and Elizabeth Strout and may pick up one of their books. I also really want to read A Town with Half the Lights On Page Getz
These may well change, particularly if Elizabeth Strout's latest hits the library shelves, but at the moment:The Second Sight of Zachary Cloudesley and How We Fall Apart by Katie Zhao
I looked for something with a z in both title and author. There are a few examples listed above, but the only one on my TBR was Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband? by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn. So that's my plan.
I always enjoy Helen Simonson's books, so I am reading The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club by Helen Simonson
I had quite a few options for author names and titles, but none that had both together. Since I have quite a few of those authors slotted in for other prompts I decided to go with Girl Zero by A.A. Dhand, and this will be the only book in my 2026 plan that has a Z in the title.
I found something with a Z in both the title and the author's name: Guardian of the Horizon by Elizabeth Peters
Did a bookstore visit yesterday and my prior pick of Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband? was on sale for $6. So that was an easy buy, yay!
