Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 4164 comments I've been listening to this one today.

Enjoying the epistolary format, and the story is enjoyable enough.

But one thing does bug me, and it's one that gets me a LOT with historical fiction these days. Why do they always have to have a female MC whose thoughts and values reflect 21st century thinking? It's not very believable, and I get so annoyed when every HF heroine needs to sound like she could fit right in today.
If I wanted a modern day heroine, I'd read a contemporary book! 😆

It's one of the reasons I prefer classics to HF. You get the accuracy. (nope, you cannot get me to read Bridgerton. It would not be pretty! 😂)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1046 comments I’ve just started this, I’m enjoying the format as well.

I haven’t gotten far, only a few days entries in so haven’t run across the person you are talking about. But I agree, i get annoyed when ladies in historical novels are butthurt about arranged marriage. That’s just how it was. The not wanting to marry someone older than their dad, sure. But no arranged marriage? Doesn’t make sense

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 4164 comments I did really enjoy this book, despite the "I am woman, hear me roar" approach of the MC.

The writing is good!
