Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've posted anything in here. I have been taking a hiatus from military history, but I want to read a book on the subject now. I started getting into fiction and classic literature and I read 2-3 books at a time instead of focusing on one. I'd love to get some good recommendation for any books you all could recommend

Nick (theprussian) | 10 comments How about military fiction? Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes is hands down the best fictional account of combat in Vietnam and probably one of the all time best military fiction accounts. I highly recommend it. Battle Cry by Leon Uris is an excellent fictional account of the Marines in the Pacific during WW2. The American Civil War Battles series by James Reasoner starting with Manassas follows a family through the war. This series will suck you into their life with all their trials and tribulations. Perhaps you'd like some murder and mystery in WW2 Nazi Germany? Then check out the series by Philip Kerr and follow gumshoe Bernie Gunther through the streets of Berlin and into the battlefields of the Eastern Front. Some of the series follows Bernie into post war Germany. Spies and espionage during WW2? Alan Furst has some of the absolute best spy novels covering the entire ETO. Really great stuff.

So if you are looking for some fiction reads during the Holidays and going into the winter season these will keep you company.

Liam Ostermann | 50 comments Great novels about war - could you do better than the following:

'The Forsaken Army: The Great Novel of Stalingrad' by Heinrich Gerlach

and

'Castle Keep' by William Eastlake

Nick (theprussian) | 10 comments Liam, I haven't read either of those. I'll check them out.

'Aussie Rick' (aussierick) | 26 comments One very good WW2 novel is "The Red Horse" by Eugenio Corti, which coves Italy during WW2 and is an excellent story.
