Thanks for starting this discussion group. Very cool. I've been writing comedy for, what, 25-plus years? Mostly sitcoms, a couple of dramas. Some good, some suck. The Wheel of Nuldoid

The book is about small creatures called Nuldoids that live at the center of the Earth and operate the machinery responsible for Earth's rotation. Though they look like Hobbits, they are grouchy and argumentative -- since their society is based on dissent.

Anyway, thanks for looking. You can find out more at www.Nuldoid.com. Where there's even pictures.

Thanks,
Russ

Gina (grcollia) My first novel, The Wonderful Demise of Benjamin Arnold Guppy is a dark comedy. It's a tale of blackmail, turnip tossing, and the cold-blooded murder of an incredibly irritating old man.

I maintain a blog for adding character interviews and extra snippets of information about them:

Thanks! *happy dance*

I prefer the traditional vampires myself. I'm still working on the vampire story. The first section is up on the website. I intend to kill every single one of them off by the end of the novella. And I don't feel bad at all.

One of my stories is in a free ezine - Bewildering Stories - titled "Glutton's Purgatory". It's another comic horror. I've got a zombie comedy out on submission, too.

I'm glad you're enjoying my writing. My novel is space opera, but I still enjoy it. Check it out on my website, the first three chapters are free to download.

Scott Lee (scottleeevansuk) | 6 comments Hello

My name is Scott Evans and I am the author of a comedy book called Memoirs of a bar steward, which is inspired and loosely based on my life at the turn of the century.

Book info:
Jacob Cox is 18 and finds himself running his family's new business, a dilapidated bar in a forgotten seaside town. Jacob longs to escape his family of villains, liars and psychopaths. Could the bar be his last chance to make money and get away from everyone he despises? Is his family really that bad or is he actually worse than all of them put together?

To make the business a success he needs help from his dangerous twin brother Miller, his disastrous best friend Curly and his annoyingly cool younger brother Clint. It's a perilous undertaking with monstrous foes and maybe even love (or just deadly sex). If his con artist father, gang member mother, and his sinister little sister Marie don't destroy his plans, maybe, just maybe he can escape.

A screwball comedy about a dysfunctional family who need each other to survive.

Ross Cavins (rosscavins) | 3 comments Hi, my name is Ross Cavins and I recently released, "Follow The Money."

Follow The Money by Ross Cavins

Here's a brief synopsis:

"Follow the Money" is a collection of ten interconnected short stories that will grab you, wrestle you to the ground and squeeze you until your funny bone snaps in two.

A botched kidnapping, a money scam, a not-so-average convenience store holdup ... each story flows (with the money) through a series of interesting, and sometimes bizarre, plots. Layered and interweaved with seamless complexity, recurring characters and everyday motifs bind the ten stories into a single universal plot.

Ingenious in its conception, flawless in its execution, "Follow the Money" is a hilarious, detailed study on the many facets of the human condition. Greed, Pride, Lust . . . the seven deadly sins have never been so entertaining.

Prepare yourself for a raunchy, gritty ride you'll never want to end.

--

The reviews are coming in (from reviewers and regular readers) and I'm humbled. Now I want everyone to read it. :-D

--

"This book is among the funniest I have ever read ... bigger than life characters ... innovative plot lines ... savor each story slowly." Lauri Coates, ReviewTheBook.com

"A curious book ... that I couldn't put down ... superbly entertaining ... unusual for its quirky cleverness ... deserving of 5 stars in a landscape of otherwise so-so literary offerings ... pure FUN" Joseph Haschka Amazon, Top 500 Reviewer and Vine Voice

"It's a page turner ... laughed out loud several times ... gold star for creativity ... I literally had a huge grin on my face when I finished the final chapter." Stephanie Snowe, author of "Meeting Mr. Wrong"

"Sharp wit ... bold characters ... I laughed out loud ... quite hilarious, Cavins has delivered a very entertaining read." Elaine Smith, ReviewTheBook.com

"A quirky, hysterical tale ... A+ for creativity ... nothing is predictable ... laugh-out loud adventure ..." Paige Lovitt, ReaderViews.com

"A unique read ... off-the-wall and a little on the wacky side ... a humorous writer and you will enjoy his book ..." Charline Ratcliff, RebeccasReads.com

John Pearson (misterteacher) | 9 comments Howdy everyone,

After moving from design engineer to 3rd grade math teacher, I wrote Learn Me Good, which is currently number 1 in the humor category on Amazon.

Jack Woodson is living and working in Dallas, TX. He has forty children, and all of them have different mothers.

Jack was a thermal design engineer for four years until he was laid off from his job. Now, as a teacher, he faces new challenges. Conference calls have been replaced with parent conferences. Product testing has given way to standardized testing. Instead of business cards, Jack now passes out report cards. The only thing that hasn't changed noticeably is the maturity level of the people surrounding him all day. Learn Me Good is a hilarious first-person account, inspired by real life experiences. Through a series of emails to Fred Bommerson, his buddy who still works at Heat Pumps Unlimited, Jack chronicles a year-in-the-life of a brand new teacher. With subject lines such as "Irritable Vowel Syndrome," "In math class, no one can hear you scream," and "I love the smell of Lysol in the morning," Jack writes each email with a dash of sarcasm and plenty of irreverent wit.

Thanks for checking it out,

John

Jan Hurst-Nicholson (janhurst-nicholson) | 271 comments ‘Droll, witty and utterly British’ part of the Publishers Weekly review that took But Can You Drink The Water? into the semi-finals (top 50 out of 5000) of the 2010 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. Now available as a Kindle at the ridiculously low low price of 99c.
But Can You Drink The Water? by Jan Hurst-Nicholson
When Frank Turner informs his wife and teenage son they are emigrating from Liverpool to sunny South Africa, he is unprepared for their hostile response. His defiant son makes his own silent protest, and his wife’s assertion that “we never shoulda come” is parroted at every minor calamity.
The bewildered working-class scousers are thrust into an alien world of servants, strange African customs, unintelligible accents, and unexpected wild life (‘crocodiles’ on the wall).
Their uneasy interactions with Zulu servants, Afrikaner neighbours, and foreign officialdom exposes their naivety, but they each learn to cope in their own individual way; Mavis overcoming homesickness by hugging the knowledge that when Frank’s contract ends they can return home; Gerry’s sullen resentment giving way to love of the outdoor life, and Frank masking his own doubts with blustering optimism and bantering sarcasm.
Having overcome culture shock, the arrival of Mavis’s parents introduces a divided loyalty when Gert and Walter’s National Health glasses and ill-fitting dentures are seen through the eyes of the Turner’s new South African friends. And when Mavis’s sister ‘our Treesa’ and her opinionated husband Clive visit, Mavis surprises herself by hotly defending SA.
The turning point comes when the family return to Liverpool for a holiday. Gerry has outgrown his former feral friends, Mavis realises she is now an expat; a misfit in her former home, and Frank has fresh misgivings about their future.
If home means a sense of belonging –where do the Turners belong?

Set in 1988, BUT CAN YOU DRINK THE WATER? uses subtle observational humour, with an underlying pathos, to portray the upsets, hurt and changing family dynamics that emigration brings.
It will appeal to fans of Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine, and to expats, and potential expats worldwide.

Thanks for reading this far.

Cheers
Jan

Hi Jeanne,
Some of the experiences in the book are based on real events, but many of course sprang from my imagination. However, I think the feelings and emotions are universal to expats.
I've never heard of a Norwegian forest cat - sounds exotic. Ours are just SPCA specials who either lie on the manuscript, sit in front of the screen and tap me on the nose with an insistant paw asking for attention, or bat the screen chasing the mouse pointer.

Karen | 7 comments Hi! I'm starting to learn the ropes here at Goodreads! I'm the author of a humorous mystery, Take the Monkeys and Run, available on Kindle, Nook and in paperback both at Amazon and B&N.com. It was an Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Contest Semi-finalist and so far is collecting some wonderful Amazon Customer reviews.

As part of the ABNA, a Publishers Weekly reviewer said it was "an outright treat: diverting, funny and fast-moving."

Here's a description:

Film lover Barbara Marr is a typical suburban mom living the typical suburban life in her sleepy little town of Rustic Woods, Virginia. Typical, that is until she sets out to find the missing link between a bizarre monkey sighting in her yard and the bone chilling middle-of-the-night fright fest at the strangely vacant house next door. When Barb talks her two friends into some seemingly innocent Charlie’s Angels-like sleuthing, they stumble upon way more than they bargained for and uncover a piece of neighborhood history that certain people would kill to keep on the cutting room floor.

Enter sexy PI Colt Baron, Barb’s ex-boyfriend who would love to be cast as new leading man, filling the role just vacated by her recently estranged husband, Howard. When Colt flies in from out of town to help Barb, events careen out of control and suddenly this mini-van driving mother of three becomes a major player in a treacherous and potentially deadly FBI undercover operation. It’s up to her now. With little time to spare, she and she alone, must summon the inner strength necessary to become a true action heroine and save the lives of those she loves. The question is can she get them out alive before the credits roll?

If you like soccer-mom humor, I hope you'll give it a try. :-) You can always read the first chapter for free at my website: http://www.karencantwell.com

Tyler DeAngelo Learn Just Enough . . . to Get Laid by Tyler DeAngelo

The allure of a man who can create a feast from fowl, use simple solutions to elegant means, or build a city with his brawn is a tale woven in the evolution of our species.

The first Neanderthal to throw a mammoth steak on the fire got the carnal desserts. The first monkey to dip a stick in an ant hole surely raised the hairy brows of his female primates. And lord knows the playboys of the middle ages were the ones stoking fires and laying steel to the anvil.

Sadly though, in a society of pizza delivery, Google searches and Ikea assembly, today’s dudes have lost most of the skills that have perpetuated the human race. I believe it’s time for men to take back our identities as a provider, as imaginers, as musician, and as magicians. It is time to reclaim our inner connoisseur. Women deserve more on Saturday night then a hastily heaten pizza pocket and I intend to show you how to impress her with newly acquired skills in no less time.

Reading this book will be like the first time you had sex; It'll be over before you know it, you'll have your hand held the entire time and by the end of it we'll both be crying.

Stephanie Zia (stephz) | 4 comments Hi,

Thanks for this opportunity.

My new novel:
Ten Good Reasons To Lie About Your Age

$0.99 Kindle
£6.29 paperback UK (Lulu)

is about Sally Lightfoot, a 50 year old widow unsure whether to age gracefully or disgracefully. A year after her husband's sudden death and stifled by suburbia, she goes out to lose her 'wididity' her born-again virginity, facing humiliation and rejection square on. It's sad but funny too.

My favourite blurb comment so far is US reader Lizzytish who said when she got to the (um, climactic) final chapters her beloved cats had to wait to be fed till she reached the end.

"A beautiful life interrupted, then healed by the songs of Leonard Cohen." Blogcritic

"One minute this book has the reader laughing out loud, the next we are sobbing. Romantic, hilarious, engaging and highly perceptive, this is a finely written novel that deserves to be a bestseller." JACQUI LOFTHOUSE, The Writing Coach.

"I would recommend this book for reading and book clubs. It is insightful and delightful, full of thoughtful dialogue and exceptional clarity. Sally feels real, like a neighbor or a friend and that makes the story take on a presence of its own."
LESLIE WRIGHT, The Huffington Post, Blogcritics, Seattlepi, Tic Toc.

I hope you'll think it worth checking out the the sample chapters.

Thanks

Roy Finch | 1 comments My humorous novel The Emperor of Glitter Gulch is available on Kindle, Smashwords and will be available soon on B&N.com.

Here's a description:

Leonard Orton inhabits a part of Las Vegas that most tourists never see; the dirty underbelly of a city populated by hookers and strippers, juiced-up bouncers and semi-professional cage fighters. Leonard is in the process of running his flagging law firm into the toilet when a woman approaches him to handle a case that might prove to be his salvation. And even if he is a bad lawyer, and Leonard is certainly that -- quite possibly the worst lawyer in all of Las Vegas, which would place him high in the running for worst lawyer worldwide -- Leonard has a chance to resurrect his career and gain a measure of retribution against his lifelong nemesis.

Along the way, Leonard must overcome clashes with a homicidal ex-client with a penchant for inflicting bodily harm with a croquet mallet, a frequently naked Vietnamese butcher, a judge who insists that litigants perform calisthenics in lieu of oral arguments, and a couple of Eastern European hookers whom just might be the death of him. If he can stay out of jail and avoid the annoyingly persistent investigator from the bar association long enough to keep his license, Leonard just might be able to uncover some of his long lost dignity.

Sardonic, edgy, and sure to offend, The Emperor of Glitter Gulch is sure to appeal to fans of Carl Hiassen and the HBO hit comedy series Eastbound and Down.

Warrning: This Book is Offensive.

Thanks!

I don't usually write humor, well not intentionally anyway. However, I have posted a short, and I mean really short, Humorous Hint Fiction Mystery Story in my writing on Goodreads. What is hint fiction? Well it's where you tell a story in 25 words or less, which is harder than it sounds. What I did was to make 25 chapters each being 25 words or less to make a book. Here's the link if you would like to check it out. Just be kind as it's a little story whose feelings are easily hurt.

Henry had an obsession for old people.

He wasn’t a gerontophile, at least not in the perverted sense of the word. He had no quivering desire to give foot massages to octogenarians or whisper to them his darkest, most secret fantasies. And he didn’t like all old people as a rule: only the ones who acted old.

When Rowena falls through her classroom wall into another world, she doesn't count on being kidnapped - not once, but twice, dammit - and the stakes get higher as the men get hotter. Unwanted husbands keep piling up; not only that, she has eighteen-year-old Kendra to look out for, and a war to prevent. Good thing she can back through the wall when she needs to...or can she?

John Rhodes (John_D_Rhodes) | 29 comments Ah humor/humour, a tricky subject, but one I decided to dive into, or at least have a little paddle. I'm not that cautious, I did leave my water wings at home (I'm not sure if this translates so please if your not sure please ask). My novel - Mr Memory - a little bit off kilter, not quite as mad as Monty but somewhere to the side of Rankin - Robert not Ian) - is available here:

I just published my new silly parody cookbook Kooky Cookery, here's the blurb!

What do bricks of tomato gelatin, pizzas made with baked beans, and hors-d’oeuvre impaled Santas have in common? They’re all part of American’s rich and fragrant history of bizarre food concoctions. Kooky Cookery is a campy cookbook parody and humorous archive of the nation’s Golden Age of peculiar creations.

You can read more about it at http://www.kookycookery.com

It's available in print and various ebook formats. It's also on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/1463650892
