Hello I'm Paul Komarek, author of Defying Mental Illness. I'm from Cincinnati, Ohio. Just joined Goodreads to introduce my new book to people who may find it useful.

Defying Mental Illness focuses directly on techniques that support recovery - finding out what you're facing, figuring out what helps, dealing with risk, building alliances, and planning for the future.

I reveal in my forthcoming memoir ROCKET MOMMA (currently being submitted by my agent to publishers) the multiple lessons I learned in coping with my bipolar-manic mother. We had 7 major turning points in our tumultuous relationship. My hope is that our story will help others on their quest for stability, forgiveness and love. www.janlarkey.com

Melissa McCarter (lissahoop) | 3 comments My name is Melissa Miles McCarter. I am 40 and was diagnosed when I was 22 of bipolar disorder. A few years ago I wrote a memoir about my initial diagnosis during my first (of what would be one of a few more over the years) hospitalization called Insanity: A Love Story. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

I would love to read more books --especially memoirs--related to the subject of mental illness. I have read many over the years -–two of my favorites are Elyn Saks and Kay Redfield Jamison's books. I would love more recommendations.

I live in rural Southeast Missouri in a 170 civil war era home with my husband and a bunch of pets, including three English Bulldogs. I am a writer, academic and publisher. I recently got accepted as a blogger for Huffington Post and my second blog post was about bipolar disorder (specifically about whether I would "shed my bipolar skin if I could").

I am on a number of support groups on Facebook for bipolar disorder and have found socially connecting with others with mental health challenges healing for me. Because I love books so much, I hope connecting with others through goodreads about the subject of mental illness to will be rewarding as well.
