The Seasonal Reading Challenge discussion

I'm wondering how everyone in the East is surviving all the snow which led to the idea that it would be good to have a place to share what's happening with families, school, jobs, vacations, hobbies, big & little events, etc.

What do you think?

The snow has been killer for me! I'm outside of Philly and we got pounded with snow 2 times within a couple days. Each resulted in a little more than a foot of snow. It was pretty fun though. I'm unemployed right now so a snow day was just like any normal day. lol. I actually have a marketing internship right now but it is only one day a week..but it's good for the resume! Ah, the life of being an unemployed college grad. :)

Up here in Maine we have missed most of the big storms this winter. Only 1 snow day so far (at least in the school I teach at). The ski mountains and snowmobilers are very disappointed though!

Well being from Buffalo, NY it is nice to see the snow going elsewhere this winter. It could have spread out a little more. Even we don't get that much snow near the city. It usually falls in ski country south of the city. So all in all just a normal winter here.

I'm in Rochester, NY and it's definitely a nice change of pace to not have more snow then all of my family who live in NJ. I know everyone down there is sick of the snow!

We got a foot in the Chicagoland area. We get an inch here and two inches there. No fricking snow day though. If the superintendent can get out of his driveway, we have school.

Here in West Central Wyoming today was the first significant snow storm we've had since our wedding day in October. The snowmobilers are sad here too. I wish we could be getting the snow that they are getting 75 miles down country.

We didn't get any snow here (Central Texas), but up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, my brother said it was CRAZY. 12.5 INCHES at the DFW airport in 24 hours, which is UNHEARD OF.

I'm just outside DC, and we had a TON of snow. Over the course of a couple of weeks we ended up with almost three feet. I'm from the south so I'd never seen anything like it. Now I'm still amazed watching it melt. I just can't figure out where all this snow melt is going to go...
My cable and internet were down for a whole week. Good thing I'm a reader!

We were pretty darn excited, we had 3 whole inches here in GA! woo-hoo, my kids were so happy! We were here for the blizzard of '93 (said in crotchety old lady voice) and this was nothing really in comparison, but it was the most snow my kids have ever seen. There are still remains of their snow forts in my front yard.

My husband was in DC where the weight of the snow broke one of the hotel's skylights, but no one was hurt.

I am also from Rochester NY! Not much snow this year compared to other years, but boy has it been cold. It's a bit of a pain because I work outside with horses and have to constantly battle with frozen water buckets, spigots, etc. I can't wait for the thaw.

My gynocologist was stranded in Cleveland, Ohio, so my appointment got rescheduled.

Oh man. I couldn't work outside right now! I was in tears walking from my car to the grocery store the other day when it was so cold. I swear I need to live in Hawaii or some warm climate. lol

All the people who live in cold climates want to live in warm ones. All the people in warm climates want to see snow. Snow is SO OVERRATED.

I live outside of Philly and what I love about PA is that we get to see all the seasons. I hate winter and the cold but I wouldn't be able to handle not seeing snow at least once. I just hate when it is bitter cold. If I had it my way, winter would only last a month or so and summer would be longer lol.

I don't miss snow at ALL. If it doesn't get you a snow day, what good is it?

I loved living in California. It was too expensive to live there. I only lived there a year.

I'm in Columbus OH and this a record setting month for them weather wise (snow accumulation and days of weather warnings). We have two feet sitting on the ground and more on its way. They are really bad at dealing with snow, four days of school have been cancelled this month, if they miss more than 5 they will have to make some up!! I love the snow though, I am from Minnesota originally.

now see we have to make up every snow day at the end of the year. They don't factor those in.

WHHHHHAAAAAT???? I'd be happy if it never got BELOW 70! I'd LOVE to live in Hawaii... But there have to be people who like all types of climates, or everyone would be crammed into California... ;)

That is so true. I guess I have always figured that you can put more on... you can't take enough off (I am not a nudist colony person). I grew up in a place that it was always at least 90 degrees with 90 percent humidity. I never had cold. And that high of a heat was miserable. Eventually I came to hate it. I imagine it is kind of like some of you guys with the cold.

I don't like extreme temperatures. Anywhere between 60-75 is good for me.

I'm outside DC and luckily I didn't lose power. My brother took advantage of the snow and built a snow beer pong table for Super Bowl. I spent more time playing WoW, catching up on shows and reading a little. It was pretty to watch the snow fall.

I don't have a lot of snow in Knoxville, TN however we have had more than our share. I love the heat of summer as it seems to be harder to warm up then to cool down however I am a Girl Raised in the South (GRITS). :)

We got snow last night but not enough to have a snow day.

Living in CA and AZ most of my life, my only experience with snow was a month in a small, south-central NE town and a couple of months working in Lincoln, NE. Humungous snow drifts on the farm, the dazzle of sunlight on ice, the briskness of the air -- all good memories.

I experienced ice while living in the UK -- miserable stuff if you have to drive to work every day.

The last couple of days have been rainy in AZ which we love because any weather besides sun / heat is rare here.

I was just outside with the dogs here in New Jersey and noticed that the peonies are pushing up shoots- that's my sign that spring is coming. I put those peonies in the sunniest, most protected spot in the garden for just that reason. They're my beacon of hope that winter will end soon. We're supposed to get snow again tonight, but for at least this afternoon I can pretend it is almost spring. The crocus are under at least a foot of shoveled snow- but I know they're there.

Yeah, I'm not much for the nudity either, but I'm also not an outdoorsy person... So I really just go from my air-conditioned house to my air-conditioned car to my air-conditioned destination (or the pool ;) ) and then back again. I hate having to put a ton of layers on and then strip them off in the car (if/when it ever warms up in there), then put them back on and then strip them off again when you get where you're going... OYE...

I love Texas. I love the heat. I love the humidity.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy! More snow coming! Just what I wanted! At least the rain yesterday and the heat wave (aka 35-40 degrees) has melted a foot or so of the snow we have *rolls eyes*

We just can't get any more snow days for school or else we'll be going until July. Silly district didn't budget any days into the schedule this year, and we had 2.5 days from those two blizzards. Plus, I don't get paid if I don't work. The trials and tribulations of being a substitute teacher.

Too bad the snow's not coming next week instead of tonight. Then I could at least get some reading done for the Spring Challenge. As it is, I guess I'll just have to sit around playing Katamari...

Here in Northern Kentucky, February has been unusually brutal this year. Over the whole month we have gotten more snow than we usually get all winter. The kids haven't been a full week in school all month. The foot of snow that we just had finally melted and hopefully we will just have flurries to deal with from now until spring. I am originally from the mountains of Virginia so am used to more snow than we get here in Kentucky so I would just have to say we have been spoiled by the tame winters of years past. Oh well...snowed in means reading more!!

It snowed all afternoon yesterday (in central Texas!!)... My least favorite part (other than the cold and wet) is that no one in Texas knows how to drive in snow, so it's COMPLETELY dangerous, even when the snow isn't sticking on the road... *rolls her eyes* (Yes, it's bright outside when it snows, but you STILL need to have your lights on, geniuses! Especially if your car is WHITE. I swear...)

But tomorrow, it's supposed to be 60°F again, thank goodness. I AM kinda getting annoyed at having precipitation every 3rd or 4th day. Every time our yard gets dry, so we can let the dogs run around out there, it rains (or snows, apparently), and we have to deal with the mud again. But that's Texas weather for you: totally schizophrenic.

More snow in the forecast for us too! BOO!

We are supposed to be hit by something tomorrow, Fri, and Sat here. Right now people are saying 15-30 inches by Sat. Sigh.

Well I have heard at least 4 different forecasts since yesterday for Buffalo. I hope they are wrong also. If not we should be getting at least 12 inches maybe more.

Oh nice! We are! My boyfriend lives in Spring City..which is pretty close to you too!

We were supposed to get lake effect snow. Up closer to Lake Michigan they were supposed to get over 6 inches of snow.

School let out early today...hopefully we'll only have a delay tomorrow. Darn you, snow clouds! *shakes fist*

Now, to the library to pick up the books that have arrived before the storm gets any worse.

I get my library books delivered to my house. The northeast got hit pretty hard with snow.

I just want to say... It is March 2, and snowing in GA. They just decided on an early release from school. let's hear it for family togetherness!

My cousin (technically my cousin's husband) is a weatherman up in Rochester. He's the morning meteorologist at WROC-TV, Brian Neudorff. Just thought it might be interesting to talk to someone (other than my cousin) who has seen him on TV. Any chances you watch that station in the morning?

Holy cow... I went in to work yesterday at 8:00 am, at which time it was nice and warm outside. (I wore 3/4 length sleeves and didn't even take a coat with me!) And then about an hour later, it was POURING rain, thundering like CRAZY, and was FREEZING outside! Did I mention that Texas weather is totally schizophrenic? Because it is. I'm just glad I work in a nice warm library...

I love libraries. I worked in one once. We got an inch of snow yesterday and it was like 35 outside with snow flurries all day.

I just started about 5 weeks ago... just working 20 hours a week, but I REALLY like it!
