Anyone want to discuss any of the world wide "idol" shows?

Crystal is great. I am sure her album will end up in my house, as my wife loves her also and is the exact type of stuff my wife loves. Siobahn, I agree with Simon 100%. She needs to quit screaming. I don't agree that she is in league with Adam from last year, as he NEVER fell out of key, whereas Siobahn did two weeks ago in one of the worst performances I have ever seen on that show, and that show is usually full to the brim with bad performances. But her squealing has become more novelty as it just doesn't fit most of the time she is doing it. If I didn't know better, she is starting to channel her Scream-O self.
I like Tim Urban just for how well he has taken some brutal abuse. He isn't nearly as bad as they claim, he just isn't very unique. His voice will never jump out at you, but he could be a decent Pop style vocalist in a Jonas Brothers style outfit, just without their range.
I don't get all the love for Lee Dewyze (I think that is the spelling...or close). There are about 1 million of him on the radio right now.
As for Goldilocks, Simon was dead on right the one week, his version of "Power Of Love" was no different at all from the original and the other three twits (I do like Ellen) didn't know what the heck they were talking about.
Kara needs to go. I loathed Paula, but Kara might actually be worse. At least with Paula you could laugh at her drunken flailing, but with Kara all you can do is grit your teeth at her arrogance. I hate how she criticizes everybody for not getting the meaning of the songs. I guess she doesn't understand that every song is up for interpretation and you should never expect everybody to relate 100% to what you write. You write a song for people to make their own and identify with in their own ways. THAT is how you appeal to people you nitwit. Even a song as blatant as "Fortunate Son" people need to interpret on their own, otherwise there is no way you could identify with a song written during Viet Nam and about the politicians saving their kids from the war! Plus, if you were meant to be able to relate to the songs, then everybody should have thrown a hissy fit when Goldilocks did "American Woman"!!! HE WAS SINGING IT TO THE GIRLS IN THE AUDIENCE!!! Talk about a guy not knowing what the hell the song is all about!
Okey dokey...sorry about the rant.
Rant all u want Carl. I'm not too fond of those women either. Ellen is not my fave person either but she seems to be a peacemaker on the show to me. Smiling and always trying to say something nice even if there is nothing nice to say.
Carl, I had no idea you watched AI. Good to know. When I first heard/saw Siobhan I liked her quirkiness and her voice. I liked the way she phrased a song. "Across the Universe" is a song I love and I was so psyched for her to sing it but her version was so flat and subdued; I hated it. She could have really done something with that beautiful song! And she looks evil when she screams.
I have loved everything Crystal has done on the show. I thought she looked too uncomfortable in that dress with the push up bra that she wore while playing the piano. I hate "Come Together" but liked her version.
Adam Lambert is the only AI I have ever bought songs from. He is the best performer to ever be on the show. He has that special something that few performers have. I bought "Mad World" and "A Change is Gonna Come." I didn't buy his first album because I heard only bad things about it; hopefully his next one will be what he wants to do.
I like looking at Casey and think he does have a good voice and some stage presence.
Tim Urban and Katie have average voices: not too good and not too bad.
I'd like Lee Dewyze better if he showed some self-confidence. I would just never buy an album from such a sad sack who doesn't believe in his own talent. If you don't believe, why should I believe you're any good and spend my hard-earned money?
The little country singer has a good voice, but he doesn't know how to do much other than stand there and sing.
I cringed whenever Paula started talking. She was so incoherent she was useless as a judge who was supposed to be giving advice.
Kara is annoying and has more attitude this year, but I feel she knows at least something because she's in the business. I get what you're saying about her criticizing people for not getting the meaning of songs. I remember when she criticized one of them for not "getting" "Gimme Shelter." Simon said something like, "What do you want him to do, bring a tank onto the stage?"
I'm glad Ellen's on the show. She has done a much better job than I thought she would. When she doesn't like a performance, she does try to throw something positive in, but that's just how she is; she's staying true to herself.
Yeah, that Gimmie Shelter bit was funny! Right before he said that, I looked at my wife and said "yeah, but how many people really know what this song is about?"
*raises hand* I will confess that it's one of those songs that I enjoyed for years just by letting the music and Jagger's voice wash over me instead of really listening to the lyrics. So I had no idea that's what it was about. Probably if I was going to sing it and had the words in front of me I'd know what it was about.I can't remember why she criticized the guy. Did he smile while he was singing? Whatever it was, THAT was his interpretation.
Well, we don't have to do just American Idol here :)We can talk about the kid who sang the Whitney Houston song.
I don't really know.....I'm not a big fan of the show. I watch it occasionaly, watch as they try to sing like Ann Wilson and epicly fail. Nobody will ever match her voice.
I know they have similiar shows in several countries, including Great Britain, Australia, Canada and who knows where else.
I know, only Ann can do that song. Have you heard that song done Acoustic on their Album 'The Road Home'. Best Twelve bucks I ever spent on that album. Here's the link.By the way, it's just called Alone. I'm kinda of a Heart snob.
Great performance from the Wilson sisters. Thanks, Chick.Oh, ha ha. Sorry for messing up the title. I have a habit of adopting the entire sentence for those one-word titles.
I love when performers do acoustic versions of rocking songs. It really showcases the vocals and lyrics.
I like the acoustic version better then the eighties version. Check out the entire Road Home Album. They have it on iTunes. They do great versions of Barracuda, Straight On, a couple of covers, some new material, and some relatively unknown Heart Stuff. I love it sooo much.
Yeah, it's probably their most under rated album. 'Cause everyone thought they were doing crap albums in the nineties. This one is probably the highlight of their more modern career.
Figure I will post this here. For anybody who LOVED the Adam Lambert version of "Mad World", this is the version he kind of used for it, though IMO this one is vastly superior. Gary Jules - Mad World

I love this video, but Jules' voice can't match the beauty of Lambert's, IMHO. It's a shock to the system to hear how fast and upbeat Tears for Fears' original version is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXuXik...
Surprise, surprise, Tim Urban was easily one of the best tonight. That was a great version of the tune that he did!
He was really good. He does "Fools Rush In", and it's just him solo with his guitar. His playing is beautiful on it, and his voice works great. Perfectly understated with just the perfect amount of emotion bleeding in.
Just finished watching AI. Tim was great! If only he could be that good every week. I think his was the best performance of the night. What was Andrew thinking? He's just not that good a singer. I think he'll be gone next week. Maybe last week he beat Michael by one vote.
Michael was better this week. I also think he's too dramatic when he sings. He reminds me of one of those goofy preachers acting crazy on stage on a Sunday morning. The song was a little abrupt though.
Siobhan was a disappointment. She looked like Ann Bancroft from The Graduate! She's too young to be dressing like a Jersey secretary from the '80s. That song was wrong for her. She should have just sung it straight from the get-go with strong vocals.
Lee is good but he sounds like every other growling rocker on the radio.
Crystal was good but I hated that song. I couldn't hear her over the three background divas.
Aaron was awful. That song always sounds karaoke unless Elvis is singing.
Hated Katie's performance.
Casey was good but I'm getting tired of the same sound every week. I think he does better when he does slow songs where he sits on a stool and stares into my eyes adoringly.
Tim Urban was the best last night, if you can believe it. Crystal was good but was overpowered by the three backup singers.
Andrew slowed down a song and just sucked eggs. He is not a good singer.
Aaron did an Elvis karaoke number. One of the fast songs. I can't even remember it.
Casey sounded good--"Lawdy Miss Clawdy"?--but he only got tepid praise.
Siobhan did "Suspicious Minds" dressed up to look like Ann Bancroft--I kid you not. The judges didn't like her performance.
Katie sang some vamp song and looked once again like a little girl in dress up clothes. I hated it.
Last night sucked! But I did get to see Adam Lambert. I miss him so much on that show.
Andrew has had enough chances and I'll tell you "STRAIGHT UP" his time on Idol is running out. Katie is one of my least favorite contestants. Sad to here Crystal and Siobhan didn't do better :-( Sounds like Tim has earned himself another week though.
Everyone else loved Crystal, I just didn't care for it. She sang some rocking gospel song. Siobhan's song was more like two different songs--started slow and odd and then she rocked out. She looked stupid in that '80s secretary dress.
Yeah, I would be happy with those two. Heck, I want the top two to be Tim and Crystal. Tim mainly just so he can thumb his nose at the judges.
He's the only one we ever voted for just because he's a local boy and we do like him, even though he isn't Idol material. But neither is Jordan Sparks and she won.
I'm just glad it was Taylor that won and not Katherine McPhee - I couldn't stand her - I don't care about her legs, I didn't like her personality.
