There are bands throughout music history who just manage one good hit and fade from the spotlight. Do you have a favorite one hit wonder song?

Violent Femmes --- Blister In The Sun

My very favorite best friend ever, a real person, her name was Rachael, loved this song. I hadn't heard it till she played it for me. We would sing, and jump around, just being near her was like a bust of sunshine. I miss her so much! She was married to a friend of mine, and when it went bad she went home, which for her is Tennessee. It's been 13 years and I still start to cry when i think of her or hear this song.

And Suddenly Last Summer, both great tunes.

But then..wouldn't that make them a 2-Hit Wonder?
I liked "No Rain" by Blind Melon and "In a Big Country" by Big Country'Country house' by Blur was a good one and Eugenia, remember 'Tender'?
Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners.Didn't the video feature a leprechaun and lots of overalls? What's not to love?
I like the Mighty, Mighty Bosstones "The Impression That I Get". Every time I hear it, it takes me back to the summer of "97 and good times with good friends. And what about A-ha's Take On Me? That was a good 80's one hit wonder too!!
Hey I'm sure you all remember the VH1 100 one hit wonders. number 100 was 'Kung Fu Fighting' remember that one and what about number one 'Macarena'
"Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba"One Headlight" by The Wallflowers
"Take on Me" by a-ha
"Cars" by Gary Numan
"Beds Are Burning" by Midnight Oil
"Ah, Leah!" by Donnie Iris
"Lunatic Fringe" by Red Rider

Did they ever sing anything else Lori?
I like that list Chris."I get knocked down but I get up again...." hmm.. that song didn't have that much words huh, no wonder everyone knew it!
Eugenia wrote: "I bought that Wallflowers album because of that one song, that album was excellent. I was surprised they didn't go further."Some bands are like that. A-ha had a couple of excellent albums, but you only hear the one song. The Romantics were another with "What I Like About You," but they had a lot of better songs on their albums. Some got a little airplay when they were released, but haven't since.

I had a co=worker who thought the lyrics were "I've got no tongue, but I can open it"
I don't think Wallflowers were one hit, they had 3 discs and plenty of concerts, I think Jakob Dylan just got tired or bored. They played Three Marlenas quite a bit on my locl radioSame with Romantics, when I was in college, they were BIG, I saw them open at concerts three times in 2 years.
I hear the secrets that you keep, when you're talking in your sleep........
Yeah, that's why I didn't list the Romantics. It does seem that the radio people only remember the one song though. Same with Wallflowers and a-ha these days....
I think a lot of people think Heart was a three hit wonder. They only play three songs from them on the radio often: Barracuda, Crazy on You, and Magic Man. I rarely hear stuff like White Lightning and Wine, or Little Queen. I mean, they have better stuff besides those songs.

My classic rock station in town doesn't play any of those!!!! It's terrible. And they didn't play a lot of those when I saw them.
Well Eastofoz, the Femmes did have a few more songs, but nothing that comes close to Blister In The Sun.

Weren't The Cardigans a one hit wonder too? The only song I remember hearing from them was "Lovefool". Another one I just remembered was "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks. Oh Man, this is really taking me back!! And some of these songs that were popular when I was in High School are now 10 or 15 years old. A constant reminder that I am getting OLD!!
"And I say hey hey hey hey hey..... Whats going on"Don't know if I missed it, but has anyone considered '4 Non Blonds'? I think the name of the song is Whats up or something like that.
Chris wrote: "Beds Are Burning" by Midnight OilThey weren't a one hit wonder! They were huge over here - the lead singer is now our Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts.
Hmph!Nah, it's cool I wasn't insulted - just trying to spread the word.
Look up Blue Sky Mine by Midnight Oil, my favourite song of theirs.
Thats true Rob, take Thomas Dolby for instance he's got other music just it may not be mainstream, well I'm in the caribbean so I don't know if you've got more of his music on air in the USA, I actually heard his other music on the internet, I was doing a synth-pop compilation and added in one of his tunes called "Europa and the pirate twins".
"Der Komissar" was actually written and first released by Falco, who is also known as the one-hit wonder for "Rock Me Amadeus". So interestinly enough, Falco is responsible for two one hit wonders. Hmmm...His version of "Der Komissar" was done in German, while After the Fire did it in English. Many of these artists did indeed have other great songs. I had a whole cassette of Midnight Oil songs once upon a time.

I also like Thomas Dolby's other stuff, but I don't think he ever experienced any other fame in the US.
One of our submarines is missing tonight........
Guitar Chick-Dolly Dagger wrote: "My classic rock station in town doesn't play any of those!!!! It's terrible. Nobody mentioned their comeback songs though....
These Dreams...
Eugenia wrote: They were technically a hit one wonder because they had one song that was on the top of the charts but yea they had other songs, disks. A lot of folks that were one hit wonders did other albums and have other songs that were loved by fans just not chart toppers. ..."
I guess I thought they had more charted songs!!!
Remember when we were young, and the billboard chart was virtually impossible to get on? And albums were listed for months at a time?
They changed the rules for Billboard charting after someone, maybe Michael Jackson, was top album for almost a year. Anyway, the charts are more 'accurate' now reflecting popularity, songs come and go real fast.
Their considered a one hit wonder in the states if only one of their songs make it to the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. Read it for your self.
