Bry (utqtbry) Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs

Being a mechanic is hard work. Mercy Thompson, for instance, just spent the last couple of months trying to evade the murderous queen of the local vampire seethe, and now the leader of the werewolf pack - who's maybe-more-than-just-a-friend - has asked for her help. A book of fae secrets has come to light and they're all about to find out how implacable - and dangerous - the fae can be. OK, so maybe her troubles have nothing to do with the job. But she sure could use a holiday ...

Bry (utqtbry) So what do y'all think of Silver Borne for those of you that have finished it?? Seems to be most peoples favorite of the series thus far (it sure is mine!)

I loved all the politics and dominance nuances! Not to mention Ben and Bran having great roles in this installment!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 15 comments Definitely my favorite of the series. I loved all of the pack intrigue and was thrilled to see Mercy become more comfortable in her role.

Samuel broke my heart in this one, but I was happy with the outcome, even if I felt a bit cheated by missing the development of his relationship with Ari because it happened while Mercy was being held. Hopefully we'll get more on them in the next book.

Absolutely adored Adam in this one. Honestly, he's hands down my favorite werewolf character. And I love that she's not only basically moved in with him but has also agreed to marry him. Brilliant!

I'm just sad we've got another year to wait...

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 96 comments I this was my favorite of the series so far. I loved the scenes where Mercy saw Adam as more vulnerable. It seems like she has always perceived him as strong and knowing what he was doing.

It was heartbreaking to listen to Sam's wolf talk about what Samuel did. I guess I never really thought about it, but didn't think if the wolf was in charge that he/she/it would be able to speak and be eloquent enough to get thoughts out.

There was so much going on it was hard to just stick to a few things you liked about the book and it seems like when you read what others write you are like "Ohh, yeah, that was great too!"

message 5: by Bry (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bry (utqtbry) Adam is my favorite werewolf character in any series too DarkHeart! There just wouldn't have much to find out about Sam either coming from Mercy's perspective. He really needs his own mini series, or at least a book!

Darcy you are so right about Adam's vulnerability. It was great to see Mercy take care of him, reassure him, lead him. And I had never thought the wolf would have been so articulate too! You're right, it was great too!! :)

Carolyn F. I agree about Adam. This is the book where I finally get why Mercy loves him.

♥Lynn ♥ I loved this book!! I can never get enough of Adam and Mercy. Such a great couple! I am ready for the next book. Samuel was sad to read about. I did like how his wolf was so in charge. Not many werewolves trust their wolf like that. Bran, oh I love Bran. I would like to read of their wedding next. I am sure it would go off without any problems like everything else in Mercy's life, lol!

Gemma (bookmoodreviews) | 7 comments This was hands down the most bestest book in the series. I like the fact we have a character that has chosen the person she wants to be with and that we don't have this whole will they won't they thing going on.

Samual really went though a big character development in this book and I ended up liking him a lot more, Though Adam is hands down my favourite!!!!

Did miss Stephan not being in it though.

And felt sorry for her assitant (his name escapes me) and how his mom basically told him he wasn't to work there or have anything to do with Mercy again.

Carolyn F. I liked it too Gem that there wasn't a lot of the not telling of the other person how much you care stuff. I loved that Adam just said straight out how much she meant to him and that Mercy was trying hard to show him that she felt the same. This book really had me liking Adam a lot more for Mercy.

This was one of my favorite aspects of the book too. I loved that Adam didn't mind being seen as vulnerable, and was completely honest and up front. It was so refreshing not to sit there and have to read about constant comedy of error type situations because neither of them could speak their minds!

♥Lynn ♥ Thank the stars that Mercy brought that gun to the challenge, lol! I am glad someone shut him up. I think after Bran gets done with him, he would have wished fighting with Adam instead. Maybe by getting 3 of the cancers under control, the pack will more better. I think after this book, the pack will take Mercy in a better light.

Jesse (Jessep) | 2 comments I would have to agree that this was my favorite in the series so far. I love that we got to see more of Adam. Although I really liked him in the past books, I felt the connection between he and Mercy so much more in this one. I think we also really got to see why Adam is alpha when he was challenged.
Oh, and that scene when he tore Mercy's counter in half at the shop because he thought she might be trying to find reasons to leave him...That's why I love Adam. He's so put together, but then he has all this passion that just bubbles out of him and he's not afraid to let Mercy be who she is.

Carolyn F. Jesse, I loved that scene in the shop too. That's was actually when I started liking Adam a lot more than before.

I gobbled it all up ...and am sad to have to wait for the next book! I bought the audio from Audible and listened to it again and loved that too. Patricia Briggs has become my favorite author!

Carolyn F. So the narrator is pretty good Lena?

Heather T (horrorvacui000) I hate to say it, but this wasn't my favorite book. I didn't feel any sense of urgency for Mercy's life. I didn't like the antagonist of the story. There was something boring about her.
I liked that you got to deal with Samuel, but it just wrapped up a little too neatly for him. Also, it was just weird having Mercy actually thinking about doing something like with the bowling ball.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it, but I probably won't reread it as much I will the others in the series.

She's great Carolyn!! Try Audible or Itunes for sample of her voice.

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 297 comments I think my fav part of this book was watching Sam's wolf in action. However, after reading everyone's comments I'm wondering if maybe part of the reason that Sam's Wolf (SW from now on) was so articulate and in control wasn't because of his age. Remember in A&O book where Charles is talking about not knowing how old his Father and Samuel were--but that he DID know how old Ari was. And that Bran and Samuel were either the same age OR OLDER than Ari. Wasn't Ari like 1300 years old or something. That's a really LONG TIME to live with another being. I'm kind of wondering if SW doesn't influence Samuel a lot in his actions especially with kids. Wolves are supposed to be very protective of the pups in their packs. And I'm also wondering if SW didn't influence Samuel about Mercy too, because it/he realized that Samuel was starting to get--unstable? Is that the word I'm looking for? Definately depressed and withdrawn.

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I'm just starting this book today. I love me some Adam!

message 20: by Bry (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bry (utqtbry) I'm sure you will love it Sherri! To me it's the best in the series!

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I can't wait.

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I just finished it. OMG I'm exhausted, but in a good way. This is most definitely the best one. Oh man - Adam is in the stratosphere of hero's now. Wow. Just wow!!

message 23: by Bry (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bry (utqtbry) Im know right! He was AMAZING in this book!!

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) Amazing doesn't even cut it. I gave him his own category on my book list: hero hall of fame. LOL

Bry (utqtbry) Thats great!! And totally deserved!

message 26: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments I LOVED Ben in this book!!! I started liking him in other books but this book really sealed the deal for me! I'm not done yet I'm at the part where everyone but Mercy gets out of underhill.

Sam broke my heart in this book even tho I can tell it is going to end well. I cried when his wolf was talking about what Samuel tried to do. If anyone has read A & O I think when Samuel met her was talked about in that book. Samuel and Bran were held against their wills by Brans mom. It didn't go into much detail but that's what I think.

I'm loving Adam and Mercy's relationship grow. Both of them are showing sides of themselves that they never showed before. Even tho I have a hard time believing anyone could make Mercy throw a bowling ball at a little girl without Adam knowing something was going on.

Tracie | 2 comments I loved this book. The best so far. Felt like some loose ends were tied up so to speak.

Carolyn F. Me too Tracie. This book made me understand what she saw in Adam also.

message 29: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments I've always like Adam but this book but Ben in first place for me...I've been liking him more and more every book but this one makes him amazing

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

I thought this book was OK. My favorite parts where Sam/Samuel, Ben, and Bran moments.

SPOILER!!!!

I'm not a fan of the girl that was chosen for Samuel....I think I definitely need a better introduction to her. And I'm kind of unsure if I like her ....'heritage' if you know what I mean. And I felt that that she sort of came out of nowhere, along with her history. So it will probably take me a whole book to get over it. ^^;

I'm warming up to the Adam/Mercy relationship now, with this book, because finally we get to see some real Adam personality and not just the Alpha.

I love Bran! And I'm glad we got a tidbit of him in here as well! I just wish there were more!!!

message 31: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments Carissa my favorite parts were the Sam/Samuel moments and the Ben moments!!!!! I love when Ben attacks Mercy when he realizes she wasn't in the trailer. For the people who haven't read it not really attacks her and the Sam/Samuel thing will explain it's self after you read it.

message 32: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments Oh yeah I forgot to add that I agree completely about Samuels girl. I think cause when people were getting to know her Mercy wasn't around and that is why we know nothing about her but they should have done something cause I don't like the way that turned out

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

JenC wrote: "Carissa my favorite parts were the Sam/Samuel moments and the Ben moments!!!!! I love when Ben attacks Mercy when he realizes she wasn't in the trailer. For the people who haven't read it not rea..."

Awww, I know! I love when he 'attacks' her too! :D He's warming up to me, that's for sure!

See, I wish we could have seen the 'missing' moments with Samuel's girl - when Mercy wasn't around. I think if PB had included those scenes, we might have felt a bit better about accepting the new girl.

message 34: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments I couldn't agree more Carissa. I started liking Ben in book one when you find out he is the wolf that jumps in front of Adam. He is the first to arrive and I love that about him! I also like the scene when Mercy is running to the house with the water fairy behind her and Ben crashes thru the window to get outside

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

JenC wrote: "I couldn't agree more Carissa. I started liking Ben in book one when you find out he is the wolf that jumps in front of Adam. He is the first to arrive and I love that about him! I also like the..."

:D He's so cool! I hope PB finds him a mate and/or happy ending. Whichever comes first. :)

message 36: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments He needs a mate or I don't think he will ever feel like he fits in here. I'm not sold on the fact that it should be a ware either. I think if it is he needs an omega but he has had a hard life so far so I don't know that a ware that he has to worry about if there is a fight is a good idea for him

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

JenC wrote: "He needs a mate or I don't think he will ever feel like he fits in here. I'm not sold on the fact that it should be a ware either. I think if it is he needs an omega but he has had a hard life so..."

That makes me go back to my Ben/Jesse idea. Even though Jesse is 'taken'. :P I think they'd be cute. She'd stand up to him, and I think she'd be good for his wolf. :D

message 38: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments I don't think Adam would stand for it though.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

JenC wrote: "I don't think Adam would stand for it though."

Lol, I know! Oh man...that'd be funny to watch! XD I'd love to see Mercy try to calm him down from that! :D

message 40: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments I don't know if Mercy would try....I mean they like him now but Jesse....Adam didn't even want her with a human let alone a ware. It would be funny to see tho. I'm waiting till she gets older and wants to try to change

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

JenC wrote: "I don't know if Mercy would try....I mean they like him now but Jesse....Adam didn't even want her with a human let alone a ware. It would be funny to see tho. I'm waiting till she gets older and..."

Yah, probably not very realistic. :D But it'd be so funny!!! XD

message 42: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments Carissa I would laugh so hard if they put that in there. I'm waiting for Jesse to grow up and want to change. That's something that I think would get heads to roll

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

JenC wrote: "Carissa I would laugh so hard if they put that in there. I'm waiting for Jesse to grow up and want to change. That's something that I think would get heads to roll"

To change into a wolf, right? See, I think that would be awesome! I just don't see Adam outliving his daughter, you know? But the process of her getting to be a wolf - I don't know... *shrugs* It'd be cool if she were a wolf! Oh! Then my Jesse/Ben scenario might be plausible!!! :D I'm not giving up, lol!

message 44: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments haha....yeah I think she will want to become one but in this series they say only half of them survive it which is why I don't think Adam will go for it....and there is the whole they have to keep attacking her to within an inch of her life which I think she would have to be sent to another pack for cause I don't think any of them could do that to her

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

JenC wrote: "haha....yeah I think she will want to become one but in this series they say only half of them survive it which is why I don't think Adam will go for it....and there is the whole they have to keep ..."

Half of them only survive because their either too submissive to the wolf or they have to be killed later because of poor control. But Jesse is an Alpha's daughter, and strikes me as someone who wouldn't give in.

But yah, I agree, I highly doubt they'd be able to find anyone willing to change her. But it's sad!!! :( I don't want Jessie to die!

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 297 comments Personally I'm betting that if Jesse DOES decide to change she'll go to Bran.

message 47: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen (jencroup) | 91 comments I don't see how they don't have her do it. Like you said I don't see Adam outliving her and if she decides to change I don't see her not making it...there is no way they can kill her off like that. She is way to much like her father to not make it. Adam goes thru spells when he feels like he is a monster for what he is....I don't think that is a life he wants for his daughter tho.
None of the guys could do that so...yeah I think she would have to go to Bran. I know Sam had I think 4 children that didn't make it.
