Bry (utqtbry) Dragon Bones (Hurog, #1) by Patricia Briggs

Book Description: Ward of Hurog has tried all his life to convince people he is just a simple, harmless fool...And it's worked. But now, to regain his kingdom, he must ride into war-and convince them otherwise.

new_user I thought the second book was better as it introduces a very interesting character relationship that really adds to the book, and there's more turmoil, etc.

Carolyn F. This has been in my TBR shelf for over a year. I keep meaning to read it but haven't got to it yet.

new_user If you have her Sianim series, I would recommend reading that one. I really liked those.

Carolyn F. I have all her books except Masgues. I've heard this is a good series, so I'll have to put it in a challenge, that'll make me read it.

Masques is coming out soon in a new edition, which is good since the few copies available go for hundreds of dollars. (I have one and I'm not giving it up!)

Carolyn F. I saw how expensive it was when I tried to buy it. Unbelievable. Although if I did have a copy I would have read it and then turned around and sold it.

The new version of Masques is coming out in September. So is the never before released sequel!

Carolyn F. I'll be buying it. Thanks.

i am half way in the 1st book. So far, it is okay. It's big different from Mercedes Thompson series and Hurog Duology series. I understand the whole concept that he pretends to be stupid in order to protect himself from his father. Now, his father is gone and he is in the situation where he is becoming a Hurogemeten, which is in other word a King. He spent his whole life pretending to be stupid and that cause the problem when he is on way to becoming a Hurogemeten.

It is interesting how the story turns out though. I will still finish the series so I hope it'll change the way I feel about the story right now. I rate it as 3 out of 5 stars for now :) if you disagree, please do tell cos I would love to have a good discussion about the 1st book. Until then, I'll write again after I am done with the second book.

new_user Sean, I don't blame you. I liked the second book much better. I think you should continue. :)

That's why I am not going to stop reading :)

Lily (lilithesque) When I read these two book, (its been a few years) my thought was I could see where Brigg's future clarity in writing, balancing storyline, charicter development, action, and such was developed. Some of it was here, particularly the charicter development I believe. The story, if I remember was a bit choppy and it wasnt good enough to emerse in, while later work really is.

Ah I didn't realized that the series is her first one to write? So far, I am liking the second book. :-)

Emily (grad-student-mama) | 2 comments I absolutely adore these books- I can't decide what it is exactly but I re-read the Hurog duology a few times a year. I just love The characters and their relationships, I think these are really special books.

message 16: by Grace (new)

Grace | 3 comments I listened to the audio book of Dragon Bones, which I suppose might be a bit different from actually reading the book, but I adored it. It was on my mind for weeks. I've read the sequel, and would be happy to read more books set in that world if Patricia Briggs ever writes any, but for now I think she's focussed on the Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega series.

I read somewhere a couple months ago that she will be adding to her previous / older books. =D I would love to know what happened after Hobb's Bargain.

Emily (grad-student-mama) | 2 comments Yay!! Oh that makes me happy - I would love to catch up with these characters again.and @grace I loved the sequel as well!!

message 19: by Grace (new)

Grace | 3 comments That's great news, I really hope she does. Guess we'll wait and see.
I've just ordered Hobb's Bargain, so I'm still not sure about how much I would want a sequel to that (having not read it yet), but another Hurog book would make me so happy.
