Jillian (jillreadsabook) C'mon! How can there not be a thread for Led Zeppelin?? Best band ever!! My favorite is D'Yer Ma'Ker, I listen to it everyday. and of course Kashmir. Any other fans out there??

Gary | 70 comments Yes, the mighty Zeppelin, the one band that could make me trade my whole family for a ticket to one of their shows!

Just one question for other Zepp fans, what's the deal with Kashmir, why do you all love it so? For me it's their worst song by a long shot, and the only one I would actually say I dislike. Many Zeppelin naysayers say they are just pompous, bombastic self indulgent shit, and whenever I hear that I just presume they're talking about Kashmir.

Auntee | 30 comments I love the music of Kashmir (it sounds so sinister), but something about Robert Plant's singing just scares me...:)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) My dad saw them right before Bonham died. I've got the banner up in my room. I loooove going to California, Misty Mountain Hop, The Ocean, the almighty Stairway, and pretty much everything they ever did.....except maybe Hotdog.

message 5: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) I love Plant's voice and stage presence. Even now he has a stage presence that a lot of younger acts don't have.

I love "Whole Lotta Love" and turn it up to 11 whenever it comes on. "Over the Hills and Far Away" is another favorite.

Auntee, I get sort of scared when I hear all those violent strings and screechings at the end of "Whole Lotta Love." Try listening to it late at night in the dark.

Now that would probably scare me more!:)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) My dad was scared of it when he was little.

I really don't care for Zeppelin. And R.Plant's voice, IMO, sounds like nails on a chalkboard. I think they are overrated in their roll of changing rock and roll. I know that's not the consensus around here, that's just how I feel about them.

message 10: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) Their music is diverse, they are all so musically talented. Jimmy Page has the most inventive riffs and compositions, and Plants voice is so sexy. I am old enough to have seen them in concert twice, way back, and they were incredible. I think, the pot was thick in the air just breathing got me stoned! Immigrant Song and Thank you are my two faves. There are a few cd's with covers from all kinds of people, Hootie and the blowfish did "hey hey what can i do", very fun. Not the Beatles, but still waayyyy better than the stones

That is so odd, because i like The Stones, over The Beatles, and Zeppelin. Just goes to show how diverse this group really is.

message 12: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) makes life interesting, that's for sure! I have a huuuuge family, and we have every inch of weird, different and completely normal covered :)

message 13: by Kim (new)

Kim | 1 comments My favorite Zeppelin song is Hey Hey What Can I Do. I love Zeppelin and so do my 5 and 7 year old sons. No kids songs for them just good classic rock music.

message 14: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I wish thats how my childhood would've been. I grew up with Hannah Montana :.((((((((((((((((((((

message 15: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) oooh, hannah montana huh? sorry! I'll never forget my 3 year stomping around yelling "sunday bloody sunday". I shared my original Runaway and New York Dolls LP's with them, now I'm listening to Gwen Stefani and Timbaland (who rocks)

message 16: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Yeah. Stupid Disney Channel.

Yeah I don't think there is any middle ground with Robert Plant's voice, it tends to be either love or hate. As for their roll in changing rock music, I don't think they were nearly as revolutionary as people seem to think, much of their music is entirely lifted from bands that influenced them, but Zeppelin were the band that became mega stars and influenced the next generation so whether or not they were original becomes irrelevant as it was their impact that changed music.

message 18: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) They were rather innovative. I mean, the violin bow, Jimmy Just playing a long studio solo just the guitar, etc. etc. They didn't change music forever, but them and a couple of other bands certainly did. They were part of that certain force everyone talks about, in a leauge with The Beatles, Deep Purple, and The Who. Although I don't like The WHo much, you have to admit they did do somethig with their music.

message 19: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) Daltrey had such a pure sweet voice, I loved "teen age wasteland". We saw them on some football halftime show, and my son said "wow, they're not bad! Considering they're like, 500 years old" *sigh* I remember having a full length poster of roger daltrey, shirtless, with his jeans unzipped to just about there. he was hot!

Yes the violin bow, on the live versions of Dazed and Confused when it turns into a 20 minute freak out, my absolute favorite Zepp moment ever.

message 21: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Haha, there's a video of Heart doing Sing Child where Roger Fisher whips out a violin bow and starts doin stuff. Observe...here.
