Robyn (roxy_nj) | 9 comments I know I'm new to the group but I had to start a topic. Anyone else reading The Choice yet?

message 2: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (roxy_nj) | 9 comments Well, it was silly of me to start thsi thread yesterday. I thought I'd be able to chat while reading the book.
Yesterday I was around halfway through the book. Then I picked it up last night and found out about "The Choice". Needless to ssay I HAD to finish the book and probably cried the entire time!! Darn that Nicolas Sparks! Why do you have to make me cry?!

Oh Roxy,

That is what he is great at - making our eyes tear. I don't think I have read one of his novels without tears, and especially "The Choice." Doug

message 4: by Vita (new)

Vita (retro_librarian) | 38 comments I am currently working on reading "The Choice." I am a very busy, children's librarian, so reading is a luxury for me. Believe it or not, librarians don't get much time to read!

I got it on the day that it came out, last September. I have been slowly savoring it.

My goal is to finish it in time to read "The Lucky One."

Vita (retro_librarian) | 38 comments "A Walk to Remember" is the first book that I have ever read by Sparks. I remember being so amazed by how his words could evoke so much emotion. Never in my life had I read such a beautiful story that brought tears to my eyes. Every book since then has done the same.

It is so easy to experience this through film, but it is more of a challenge to experience through the written word. He has a gift, and those who have had the experience of reading his work are fortunate.

Vita,

"A Walk to Remember" was also the first of his novels I read. I appreciate your insight that it is a lot easier to to bring on a tearful experience with movies than novels. I also agree that Nicholas Sparks does it for me every time. :)Doug

Ashley (bookworm84) (bookworm84) Nicholas Sparks always makes me cry.

I cried so hard while reading "The Guardian". I was reading it at school between classes and people were looking at me like I was crazy!! lol

I love Nicholas Sparks though! He always knows how to get to his reader's emotions.

message 8: by Allison (new)

Allison (theallisonnelson) | 31 comments I know exactly how you feel - the last 2 books I read by him, I was crying on the train on the way to work and everyone was looking at me, like who is this crazy girl that always cries when she reads?! It really sets the mood for the rest of the day, I don't stop thinking about it for a while after - I think that's what's good about his books, is that the character stays with you for a long time after you've read the book because the story was so touching.

I agree - I only read Nicholas Sparks at home, preferably when I can be alone or find some space to be away from others. I also agree that the characters stay with you...Doug

message 10: by Allison (new)

Allison (theallisonnelson) | 31 comments Doug, that's a good idea. I definitely have to practice some discretion as to where I read my Sparks books!

Doug | 50 comments Mod
Lynn,

I think you would have to be quite emotionally distant not to cry over the wonderful stories he creates. It is such a wonderful feeling to get that deeply involved in his novels. :)Doug

Allison,

For me, it is nice to read and not have to worry about being caught with tears in my eyes - :)doug

message 13: by Vita (new)

Vita (retro_librarian) | 38 comments I just finished The Choice. I thought it took a while for it go get going. I enjoyed it, once I got to the end of Part One. He really knows how to keep you guessing to the end!

Now, I'm going to wait for The Lucky One to come out. I don't like jumping into another book right away.

Am I the only one like this?

message 14: by Allison (new)

Allison (theallisonnelson) | 31 comments Vita, I'm the same way! My usual rule of thumb is allowing 24 hours to let the story marinate after I've finished it - but there have been times (At First Sight, for example!) where I've had to wait longer to recover before starting another one!

message 15: by Doug (new)

Doug | 50 comments Mod
Vita, Allison,

I agree on the waiting period. I usually read a non-fiction book at the same time as a novel. That allows me to switch entirely to the non-fiction in between novels - I have to have my reading time!

- :)Doug

Vita (retro_librarian) | 38 comments You get to know the characters and when the book is finshed, they are gone.

I feel a sense of accomplishment for finishing the book, but sometimes sad that it is over!

I'm so glad that I am not the only one.

message 17: by Roshini (new)

Roshini Hi everyone, I'm new to this group, but just happened to be reading 'The Choice' so thought I'd jump in. This is the third book I'm reading by Nicholas Sparks, please give me some options on what to read next...thanks!

message 18: by Vita (new)

Vita (retro_librarian) | 38 comments Roshini,

Read "Nights in Rodanthe"! The movie based on the book is going to be released real soon!

message 19: by Allison (new)

Allison (theallisonnelson) | 31 comments I second that motion!!

Cristina | 7 comments Hi everyone, I'm christina. I really enjoyed reading The Choice, I didn't know what he was going to do in the end, it was very hard choice for him to make but he picked what i would have done, I really liked the ending to this one

message 23: by Amy (new)

Amy (apurpledolphin) | 4 comments Although I have a couple of Nicholas Sparks' novels and I've only read 2 so far, The Choice (not by too far) is my favorite one of the two (Dear John). For weeks after I've finished reading the book, I kept thinking about the choices Travis had and it makes me think about my own choices and what I would have done if I was in the position Travis was in. This book literally broke my heart into so many pieces when I found out why it was called The Choice. Sometimes I still think about this book and next to The Notebook, it was the best love story I have ever read.

Brianna (briannaa) | 108 comments i just bought the book the choice today. ill probably read it over the summer

Sierra (alwayschey98) | 22 comments I never got very far in the Choice- is it worth finishing?

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 22 comments I think this one may have made me cry harder than any of the others (and that is saying something!). I absolutely LOVED this story. I think it is definitely worth the read.

message 29: by Vaneeshan (new)

Vaneeshan | 2 comments This is my favourite book of his by far :D
so want it to be a film, the first one i read of his that truely shocked me in a good way :)

message 30: by Gaynell (last edited Sep 24, 2010 08:57PM) (new)

Gaynell (gaynellk) | 8 comments I loved The Choice. Although I couldn't help crying when Travis had to make the choice as to whether to honor Gabby's wishes, I was so happy with the ending of the story. I've only read The Notebook, Message in a Bottle, Nights in Rodanthe, Dear John, and the Choice. Although The Notebook is still my favorite, this one comes in a close second.

Annette Gregorio (mrsgregorio06) | 1 comments Well, I might be late but I just finished this book. I truly enjoyed it and am do glad that Gabby lived.

The Romance Bookie (theromancebookie) | 9 comments I admit it, when it comes to Nicholas Sparks books I have cried during everyone I read!! I'm serious! They are all just so touching, and I truly loved them all! "The Choice" was no exception of course. This was the last Nicholas Sparks I read. Its been a couple of months but it was great and I definitely recommend it!

The ending made me sit at the edge of my seat! I was very worried when Gabby fell into a comma, I'm so glad she lived. This is my second favorite book by Sparks, no one died, and this book teaches you about hope. <3

Lovelene Pearl (thesetrappedwords) | 2 comments hey guys, I've been a fan of nicholas sparks but i havent read The Choice yet BUT i just watched the movie a few hours ago because I badly wanna cry and for some reason Sparks is always the easy answer to that. I just wanna ask those of you who have read the book, about Gabby's parents. I didn't get that part. Could you explain to me what her parents does? I mean, did they own that huge house or something?

thanks!

message 45: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Bowes | 7 comments I have read the book and they mad Gabby's parents very diffent in the movie they work at that huge house but in the book they were very rich and Gabby did not get along with her mom it is a very good book you should read it

Nicholas Sparks does a remarkable job at helping readers and viewers tear up! I read the novel years ago and just recently watched the movie. The movie didn't seem to explain much about Gabby's parents, so I'd definitely recommend reading the book to get a better perspective. Honestly, in the movie I didn't really understand the entrance at the house where the parents were...but I assumed they owned it...I'd have to go back and watch that part again to be certain, though.

message 47: by Lovelene Pearl (new)

Lovelene Pearl (thesetrappedwords) | 2 comments Thank you guys for the immediate replies! Yea I guess i really have to read it soon, i usually read the books first, i think it was always better that way because movies leave a lot of gaps sometimes
