I have become addicted to the book giveaways! I have won Persona Non Grata and it has made me crazy to win another one. Has anyone else won a book off of the giveaways?

message 2: by Katherine (new)

Katherine yes, in the first five months I belonged I won a book a month and loved all but one of them. Haven't won anything since, though. I faithfully use the shotgun approach every couple of weeks--nothing like a free book, especially if it is a good one!

Amy | 124 comments I have won two so far, trying to find time read second one, can't wait. I loved the first one and have since loaned it out, I know she'll like it too. I enter a lot of the giveaways, I figure it ups my chances of winning again. :-)

I have won one so far and am enjoying the book...although, I haven't read any of it in the last two weeks. I better get back to it so I can post my review. Yikes, so much pressure!

Katherine, I'm doing your shotgun approach and so, hopefully, Halloween will be my lucky day! Keeping my fingers crossed! LOL

message 8: by Amy (new)

Amy | 124 comments I am rooting for you Lisa! Good Luck!

Thank you!

message 10: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Well, good luck, Lisa--my approach hasn't worked since July and the last of the five I won--I think I'm due again!!!

Lisa (lmmmml) | 1864 comments Mod
Well, I did not win*sob*. Of well, guess I will raid the kid's Halloween baskets and drown my sorrows in chocolate! LOL

message 12: by Katherine (new)

Katherine I didn't either so will shotgun some Nov offerings! LOL

Maybe we need a bazooka approach?

message 14: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Or some guided missles!!!

message 15: by Kerri, the sane one (new)

Kerri | 328 comments Mod
I told Lisa that maybe we should do an experiment...if you resign into Goodreads posing as a different person maybe you would increase your chances of winning again...OK, maybe that's cheating, but it would be an interesting "experiment" to try!

message 16: by Kaila (new)

Kaila (monkeytamer) I think that's what some people are doing. I saw some of the people that requested books have "0" books read.

message 17: by Lisa, the usurper (new)

Lisa (lmmmml) | 1864 comments Mod
That does make sense now that I think about it. I never understood why some winners had 0 books and 0 friends. Always made me rather annoyed! Thought they gave books away based on more than recent joining status.

message 18: by Katherine (new)

Katherine But how would you give a new persona, if you will, without having another address to which to send the books? Wouldn't it be obvious the requestor was simply using a different name at the same address?

message 19: by Lisa, the usurper (new)

Lisa (lmmmml) | 1864 comments Mod
Unless they just do a cursory glance at someone's profile and go with that. I don't know, but it does seem like voodoo sometimes how they pick people!

message 20: by Katherine (new)

Katherine I agree!

message 21: by Amy (last edited Nov 06, 2010 05:04AM) (new)

Amy | 124 comments I don't understand the way they choose winners but, it does seem odd. I got on my computer after being away for a couple days checked and (don't get mad) I won another book. It was one I entered a while ago. Sorry ladies. I did not add this book to my to read list when I entered, interesting.

Congrats Amy!!! That is fantastic! Man, you are on a roll!! Maybe, you could pass the mojo on to the rest of us!

message 23: by Amy (new)

Amy | 124 comments Lisa, I will do my best to pass the book mojo on to you!!

message 24: by Katherine (new)

Katherine I don't often add the book to my to read list because I can go back and see what giveaways I entered when I order a new book. Congrats, Amy! How many have you won?

message 25: by Amy (new)

Amy | 124 comments I have won three so far. My luck seems to do better when I am not checking everyday.

message 26: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Yes, I won five and then no more--won them in five consecutive months and nothing since July, I think. I don't check except about twice a month or less.

Lisa (lmmmml) | 1864 comments Mod
Tried something new and after I added the books to my to read list,I moved them up closer to #1 in my pile. Thought it might work, it didn't. *sob*

Lisa...you are pathetic; although, I feel so bad for you that I just might send you a free book myself!
(I can call Lisa "pathetic" only because we are related)

Lisa (lmmmml) | 1864 comments Mod
HAHA! I know! I feel like a shlub! Pathetic is my middle name!

message 30: by Katherine (new)

Katherine But Kerri, one feels so rejected when nary a freebie comes one's way no matter how we try to manipulate the results!

message 31: by Lisa, the usurper (new)

Lisa (lmmmml) | 1864 comments Mod
Lol, rejected sounds so much better that pathetic! You should hear what she calls me face-to-face! LOL, I love her!

message 32: by Katherine (new)

Katherine If this is your sister I can imagine having a younger, bratty sister of my own. However, your banter inspired me to, yet again, throw several hundred more hats into the giveaway ring! Pathetic indeed~

message 33: by Lisa, the usurper (new)

Lisa (lmmmml) | 1864 comments Mod
LOL, actually she is my sister-in-law, but since I don't have a sister, she is a close as I can get! That made me laugh!!! Good luck on your giveaways! Hopefully, my good wishes won't be a srike against you in the eyes of the judges! *I'm still laughing!*

Katherine LOL

Funny thing is I noticed the title change right away. I guess if the shoe fits...just saying. Oh, you are so silly. I think if I added one more book to my house my husband might report me to "hoarder's anonymous"; so, I guess I am just as pathetic.

Hope you girls win something!

message 37: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Husband? Ohhh, I knew something was missing!! Now is he under the TBR pile or the TBshelved pile? I'll look after I finish this page!

message 40: by Katherine (new)

Katherine "GUESS WHAT.LADIES!!" she exclaimed as she flew into the room waving a new book over her head. " I just won a goodreads giveaway!!!!!" Yup, it is true. I finished one that I'd been reading forever and wrote a lengthy review on it yesterday. Today I received notice that I've won Crossing the Heart of Africa Crossing the Heart of Africa An Odyssey of Love and Adventure by Julian Smith . I'm so excited it sounds like a really interesting book and part of it is set in the 19th C again!

Thank you--I am quite excited--as though I don't have an Empire State Bldg height pile of TBR tottering over there in the corner! LOL

This has nothing to do with giveaways, but has anyone else besides me been getting an error message about "stack overflow at line 13725"? I keep getting this and can't figure out if it is my computer or the site.

message 46: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Yup, I'm getting that message and posted it somewhere else yesterday. Another lady said she is getting it, too, so it must be the site. She said she has plenty of memory on her computer as do I.

Lisa (lmmmml) | 1864 comments Mod
So do I, and I even cleared out my inbox, but that did not help either. Thanks for the help! I thought that I had some crazy issue with my computer.
Need it to look up Thangsgiving recipes, since I'm having 20 people on that day. Yikes! Need my allrecipes to survive!LOL

message 48: by Katherine (new)

Katherine 20 people!!! We have done that in the past--but through the years with deaths, families members moving away and kids marrying and establishing their own units we are down to four and maybe five. Yet, when we did the big meals we shared the chores--even now I'm bringing the stuffing, the turnip and the cranberry pear fangipani pie. I'll also make the gravy at my sister's since I am the no lump queen. And it has always been family tradition that the men wash, dry and put away the dishes etc. As a matter of fact, when my daughter was in college in Mt and couldn't come home for Thanksgiving, I sent anadama cookies and a dish towel to the Mom of her friend to thank her for including my daughter. My note thanked her profusely for her hospitality, said the cookies were for everyone but the dish towel was for the male members of the clan. Don't know if they did it that way but I bet my daughter told them that she saw her Dad, Grand-Dad and Uncles taking care of clean-up every year!

Lisa (lmmmml) | 1864 comments Mod
Can I come to your house? LOL What is a fangipani pie? Never heard of that!

message 50: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Well, if I'd spelt it correctly you may have known what a fRangipani pie is! LOL No? Well, basically frangipani is a cream style filling made from almond paste NOT to be confused with marzipan, which I do not like. Basically, I line a baked pie shell with canned pear halves and pour the frangipani containing cooked cranberries over it. Bake for about 45 minutes, cool and eat. I'll write the whole recipe if anyone would like it.
