Dylan (dmfriend26) | 28 comments Well, I'll start reading The Traveling Vampire Show by Richard Laymon soon. That looks good. It's about this traveling circus show that has a real vampire in it. These kids want to prove it's fake by sneaking in when everyone's gone, but it isn't fake. It looks so good. :D

message 15: by Vampire Lady (new)

Vampire Lady (vampirelady) | 2 comments Read Nora Roberts Circle Trilogy. I'm only on book 2 but they're really good. Has a lot of magic too if you're also into that.

If you like Vamp Romance then J.R. Ward's Lover series is good. Starts with Dark Lover.

Keri Arthur's Riley Jensen series is good. Part Vampire part Werewolf.

message 16: by Melkirdin (new)

Melkirdin | 5 comments sorry, you've probably already read the original Dracula by Bram Stoker, but if you haven't then it comes highly reccomended.

message 20: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) Staked by J.F. Lewis

message 21: by Susanne (new)

Susanne (susannesaville) Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (1872) is good - it stars a female vampire who pre-dates Dracula.

I also liked Pretty Maids All In A Row - which you'll like if you like Spike from the Buffy TV series.

(and of course there's my vampire romance Vampire Close)

Vampire Secret By:l.j. Smith

She's an ahw-some author! She has a series that has different characters each time. She writes about the night world.

message 23: by Cristina (new)

Cristina M. (cmace) | 4 comments I just read her book, and you are so right. She has different characters each time and they are all good! Loved the book!

message 24: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Michaels | 7 comments Hi, you might be interested in my first book, which has recently become available for pre-order at Stonegarden.net. It is called Midnight Reflections and is a story of a woman struggling with being turned into a vampire. Just when she's adjusting, she becomes involved in a investigation on a serial killer. It is a tale of vampires, werewolves, warlocks and murder.

message 25: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Michaels | 7 comments Oh, and I also strongly recommend the Tanya Huff blood book series. Henry is just fantastic!

Norm Applegate | 2 comments Try Blood Bar

Vampires don’t exist...yet, on the brownstone back alley side streets of New York, a vampire dies. Desperate, his lover turns to Kim Bennett, author Norm Applegate’s quintessential heroine whose passion for S&M led to celebrity status as a hell-and-back murder mystery sleuth who’s been there, done that, and then some. This time, Kim finds herself caught between a secret vampire society’s attempts to locate The Black Testament (a sacred document written by Jack the Ripper), the modern-day vampire hunters bent on their destruction, and a white knuckled journey of self-discovery that catapults her into the bowels of hell and the arms of the ultimate vampire.......courtesy of The Haven, New York’s ultimate BLOOD BAR.

James Daniels (jamesdaniels) | 1 comments "The Dracula Tape" by Fred Saberhagen was a favorite of mine. It's the events of Bram Stoker's Dracula told from the Count's perspective.

I'm also writing a weekly serial on vampires and spies for Kindle called "Spooks". Just a thought. ;>

message 28: by A. (new)

A. (acharc) try reading "I, Vampire: The Confessions of a Vampire - His Life, His Love, His Strangest Desires" by Michael Romkey.
or "Shades of Grey" by Amanda Ashley

message 29: by Janet (new)

Janet Blowers (jblowers4) | 11 comments I am here in Katy too. The Blue Bloods Books are great! I am waiting to get my hands on #4. Another series you might like, kind of teen, is House of Night series by P.C. Cast and her daughter Kristen. I am not sure your age but the Charlene Harris books that they based the HBO show True Blue on - they are really good too. -Janet

message 30: by Magen (new)

Magen (magen0222) | 1 comments night world is also a good series. its all about forbidden love and if you like that kind of stuff(like i do : )!) then youll LOVE this series!

message 31: by Janet (new)

Janet Blowers (jblowers4) | 11 comments Also check out "Dark Fever", "Blood Fever" and "Fae Fever" by Karen Marie Moning. There is on character that is a Vampire but I think one of the main characters is also going to turn out to be a vampire or warewolf, they haven't told you yet but the fourth book is due out soon, I think August.

message 32: by Julie Lim (new)

Julie Lim | 1 comments Since no one mention Christine Feehan guess I should recommend her Dark Series. Start with Dark Prince. Have read the whole series. Later in the series you'll get introduce to Lycans, shape-shifters. My all-time favourite is the series by Sherilyn Kenyon. Love Archeron - must read!

message 33: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Michaels | 7 comments Anyone know anything about Vicki Peterson?

message 34: by Mary (new)

Mary Honeycutt (magnoliahoney) | 2 comments I'm reading Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian right now and it's captivating. I read the entire Twilight saga, of course, who hasn't right? Adrian's perception of vampires is, of course, much different than Meyer's version so it's taking a little bit of time for me to get used to how different this breed of vampires are.

Jessica's Guide to Datting on the Dark Side
Demon in my view
In the Forest of the Night
Shattered Mirror
Midnight Predator
Blood and Chocolateb(I ate this one up even though it's about werewolfs)

message 37: by Janet (new)

Janet Blowers (jblowers4) | 11 comments Check out J.R. Ward series "The Black Dagger Brotherhood" novels.

message 38: by Mary (new)

Mary Honeycutt (magnoliahoney) | 2 comments Ok, so Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian was wonderful but I would say it's an adult book...or at least late teens. Not early teens like Twilight.

message 39: by Janet (new)

Janet Blowers (jblowers4) | 11 comments Sorry, I should have said that J.R. Ward is definatley adult too! I forget some of the readers in this list are teens.

message 40: by Nina (new)

Nina Misson Janet wrote: "Sorry, I should have said that J.R. Ward is definatley adult too! I forget some of the readers in this list are teens. "

So you're saying teens shouldn't read "adult" books?

message 41: by Janet (new)

Janet Blowers (jblowers4) | 11 comments No - teens should read what they enjoy. Matter of fact everyone should read whatever they enjoy. As a teen I didn't get into adult romance books, I wanted more relatable teen type characters. (Yes, I was a late bloomer probably from all my efforts trying so hard to rebel against adults and adult stuff). A friend of mine just loaned me a Jodi Piccolt book that I couldn't read beacuse of subject matter. It is always good to be aware of content before picking up a book. Reading is much more enjoyable that way. Hope I didn't offend.

No, you didn't offend at all it's just that I always hated teen books even though I'm still a teenager myself and that's why I get quite snappy if someone says I shouldn't be reading something because it's labeled as an adult book... Do you get my point? :)

message 43: by Janet (new)

Janet Blowers (jblowers4) | 11 comments Yep, :) -you might really like the Black Dagger Brotherhood books then, try them and let me know what you think, I just finished the third one in the series. You can check out my bookshelves if you like. Post if find something else too.

message 44: by Janet (new)

Janet Blowers (jblowers4) | 11 comments I haven't read the Vampire Academy series yet. I'll put it on my to-read list.

I really like house of night, waiting for the next one to come out in October.

I also thought Blue Bloods was a cool twist on the Vampire thing, it really picks up in the second book and the new one comes out early october.

message 45: by Janet (new)

Janet Blowers (jblowers4) | 11 comments I loved blood and chocolate too. I just finished the first Vampire Diaries, waiting for the tv show to run tonight to see how they interpert it. I think I will try the vampire kisses series next.

message 46: by Janet (new)

Janet Blowers (jblowers4) | 11 comments The Vampire Academy series was great too - keep the reccomendations coming...

message 47: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Voigt | 9 comments If you like your vampires served up with historical drama, intrigue, and romance, I highly recommend the Saint-Germain novels by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. She has something like twenty (twenty-two?) in the series so far. The first one is called Hotel Transylvania and it takes place in pre-Revolutionary France.

message 48: by Janet (new)

Janet Blowers (jblowers4) | 11 comments Sounds great - thanks!

message 49: by Kelli (new)

Kelli (malachitemoon) | 2 comments Don't know if you've read The Historian by Kostova, but I thought it was really cool and made me look up all kinds of interesting things about Vlad Tepes and the original "dracula" (not the book, but the man).

Wicked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready has a really interesting take on vampires and music genres. I really enjoyed it. There's a 2nd one the series called Bad to the Bone, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet.

Children of the Night by Dan Simmons is also a really cool and totally different take on vampires.

Has anyone mentioned Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series? The first few of those are definitely the best. Later Anita tends to get on people's nerves and there is a lot of sexually explicit content (which is not always a bad thing).

message 50: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Michaels | 7 comments I've heard about the Historian but I haven't read it yet. Is it a Dracula story?

I agree, Laurell Hamiltons' early works were definitely her better ones.
