Discuss below!

Joanie | 59 comments Is this the one where the woman keeps trying to beat her best time for making a trip and she drives through some wormhole or something? Does her car have weird creatures clinging to it or is that something else? I need to find a copy of this book!

Yes that is this story. I like the magic to this story! Kinda neat.

Bonnie | 6 comments This was one of my favorite stories in the book! It's almost believeable.

Hayley | 83 comments I quite enjoyed this story, I think this is King at his best in a way. I think that he keeps the story intersting by telling it 3rd person, so Its Mrs Todd's story but being told 3rd hand. I love the magic of the journey and how the hell she managed to stay so young. 10 out of 10 for this one.

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 665 comments I really enjoyed this story. You are really left wondering what Mrs. Todd's shortcut's actually are? Are they wormhole's like Joanie said. Or what? And the fact that going through them makes you younger. Very interesting. I like the fact that not everything is explained. It really makes you wonder.

Abigail (42stitches) | 19 comments I read this collection around the time Donnie Darko came out, so the worm hole made the most sense to me. It's a concept I've always been pretty interested in so I loved the story. I think the narrator is a townie, right? From where Mrs. Todd summers. It does make it more interesting to hear her story from someone else. I thought that was funny too.

Julianne It's been a loooooonnng time since I've read Skeleton Crew, but this was one of the most memorable stories to me. It's pretty easily relatable--most of us are trying to make good time when we get somewhere.

I hate to do this (no, actually I don't think I do...), but I thik I have to add Skeleton Crew and Night Shift to my "to buy" lists.

Holly (hksnapp) | 4 comments It's one of my favorite short stories. I'm a little jealous of you reading it for the first time. =)

In our book club read "Cujo" Joe Chamber is mentioned in this short story as the man who was killed by his dog. Did anyone pick this up when reading?

Anirene' Goodness, it's been so long since I read this story. Now I'll have to go back and search for the Joe Chamber mention. It's alright though, like everyone else, I loved this story.

Kandice | 4388 comments I agree with the previous posts, that the real genius of this story lies with the chosen narrator. It's easier to believe something so outlandish about another from an outsider. I mean, if Mrs. Todd was telling the story, she'd be bragging, right? Her husband too. The townie has no reason to. He is just relaying the facts as he knows them!!!

Sam I'm completely intrigued by this story ... and the main premise that jumped out at me was exploring the effect that the energy we put into our passions could have

finding a quicker route between two points was Mrs Todd's passion ... and I can't remember why or how she got started - but clearly it lit her up ... and I think it was the energy that she put into it, the effective single mindedness, that lead to Mrs Todd finding her shortcuts - maybe she was the catalyst that actually created them? ...

I agree with the comments about the narrator ... and I also loved how the way Homer told the story actually uncovered a lot about him

And how about the car ... in the background but such a lovely character in it's own way too

aww SK rocks

GracieKat | 67 comments I loved this story. It actually reminds me of my mom. When her and my dad were truck drivers and they were always looking for the shortest route. She was the navigator, he was the driver. I went with them on a few runs and I've gotta tell you, some of those "side-roads" were a little freaky.

Tanya (tawnycat) I loved this story too. I know some fast drivers, but not ones obsessed with short cuts. I like to make short cuts too, to avoid heavy traffic, but I don't think I would go to her extreme.

It's been about ten years since I read Cujo so I wasn't sure but I thought that the Joe Chamber mention might have been a reference to it. But it was rather obvious if you've read Cujo even once, wasn't it? Still, gotta love SK for that!
