Why is this book always passed over? Truly my favorite of all his works!

I disagree. I don't think it's one of Spark's best novels. It's O.K.; but the storyline is too cliche, too predictable. I much prefer (the books, not the movies) "The Notebook" (now that is a classic) and "Dear John".
I agree. It is a good story, well written, just not one of his bests. Too often authors get stuck in a style rutt and start writing formula fiction. I think this is what happened with "The Rescue".
its my fav book out of all the nicholas sparks books i read. i liked the movie to it always make me cry when i watch or reread the book
I don't think any of the movies does Sparks' books any favours. I was really disappointed with the changed ending in "Dear John". I mean, really, what was wrong with the original ending?
i think he writes the screen play before he writes the book. at least thts what he did 4 the last song
I didn't realize he wrote the screenplay first. I still think his books are better than the movies. Perhaps he improved on the story line after writing the screenplay.

I'm reading the Rescue and it's a page turner, very simple and family oriented and the setting is in a small town. I think the simplicity of this book is one of its charms and the realization the most profound happiness in between. It's interesting to know stories where everyday challenges are depicted with so much element of human characteristics.
