Brandi sent a link on twitter the other day to a book review blog. The blogger gave a two star review on an indie book. The review itself was professional, and said that the story was interesting, but the writing was awkward in spots and in desperate need of an editor. The author lost her freaking mind and replied back, eventually telling everyone in the comment thread to f... off.

Needless to say, wrong approach to a negative review :-). That got me curious though. How do you handle reviews in general? Do you reply back and thank them? Are you supposed to comment at all? What is the etiquette when dealing with reviews?

Very interested to see this. I try to only review books I like, because I know that tastes are different. If I don't like something and somebody asks, then I'll tell them... But I just know it's hard on the author, and it can be hard from reviewer's end too.

*sigh* I know one day (I'm very new) I will get a bad review. I know it will sting and burn and make me miserable, but I will try to remember that not everyone likes the same kinds of books.

In fact, there's a very popular YA paranormal series out right now that I can't stand. I honestly feel like it's literary trash and a waste of the paper it's printed on...BUT tons of people LOVE it.

I would say definitely don't reply to the bad review in public. I might still send an e-mail thanking the reviewer for taking the time to read it, and saying something like, "I'm sorry you didn't connect with the story, but maybe my next book will be more up your alley."

I just don't know about good reviews. I feel like I should try to play it cool and not comment (I've 'liked' mine on here so far only), when in reality, I want to thank them profusely in all caps and include tons of smiley-faces and hearts. LOL
