I thought we were supposed to try and capture our character's voice in query. I understand the comment about POV.
This is a live query critique through Writeoncon, and an agent said this. Any insight?

"don't write your query in the voice or POV of the characters"

But, it also boils down to what they are looking for at that time. I think if a poorly written query came along but happened to have an idea they were really interested in, they would still request. I mean, as long as the query makes sense LOl ya know? Best way, read their blogs, see who is looking for the kind of book you've written. Also, get the Publisher's Marketplace. There are many many agents in their that don't have blogs or online. Expand your search for agents that are looking for your book =)

The point of a query is to pitch the story in a way that agents will want to pick it up ... because it will sell.

When they ask for a few chapters is when they'll get the voicing. They want to know if the story is marketable. It's harsh, I know, but that truly is what they are looking for. What is it about your story that is going to make people want to pick it up and read it? How is it different from the others out there, and how is it going to go over to the demographic you are marketing to? That's what you need to focus on when writing a query, and if the POV or characters voice will help you accomplish that goal, then that's what you use. That's my take on it anyway.
