series

Me 2!!! But it has to keep up the action cause when I get bored I tend to stop the book :(

I read the Inkheart trilogy and I ended up liking the last book, Inkdeath, better than the first two! :)

It's always like this with series! The next one is better than the previous and so on!

exactly! The Return of the King is better then The Fellowship of the Ring and The Last Battle is better than The Magician's Nephew! :)

Series because I love to be able to get to know a character well

The problem with series is that, unless it was planned out in advance as X number of books long, they just tend to go on and on and on... and on until the author has sucked any and all life out of their original concept.

I like a bit of both. Sometimes I like to read stand alones, though these are often quite hard to find in fantasy, and sometimes I'll prefer multiple books.

I do not agree, however, with the idea that the last book in a trilogy is always the best. This is often the case, yes, but there are examples to the contrary. Take the Study trilogy by Maria V. Snyder. Poison Study was fantastic - I stayed up all night reading it; Magic Study was good-ish - I kept trying to tell myself that I liked it as much as P.S. but I knew in my heart of hearts that I didn't; Fire Study was just downright unbearable - I had to force myself to read it.

Yeah! sometimes series start nicely and then get ruined by the next few books! And you get stuck forcing yourself to read the next pages! An author has to learn when to STOP! It's the same with TV series!

Oh, some TV series have just been taken far too far and then they just go to weird extremes to keep coming up with new plot lines. I think House and Bones have got to the end of their being good, but I doubt Fox will let them finish while they're still good.

Definitely get the same with series. Twilight she went too far. Twilight should have been a stand alone novel. It would have been corny but almost good. Three more books, the third of which (Breaking Dawn) broke every rule she'd ever set up in her universe, and then wanting to start again telling it all from Edward's POV? That's called kicking the cash cow. Let it lie.

Haha!!! I agree with everything except the House part! I really like House and think it should continue till season 9 or 10 max

Nah, House is getting to the end. They changed the series. In the beginning it was all about the medical side of it all, then it became about the lives of the team.

House peaked at the end of S5 when he ends up in front of the home for mental patients. It hasn't been as good since.

And now Cuddy's left... meh... I don't much like her but she's been there since S1e01. I don't like the idea of the series without her.

Next season will likely be the last. Hugh Laurie's had enough of House and it's causing him medical problems to be constantly limping.

Ow!! I didn't know any of that! I like the series now but it should end soon you're right!

They had problems renewing it for S8 and Laurie's only signed through till the end of next season. All the actors want to be able to go out and do other stuff, which I can readily understand.

I'd rather it go out with a bang than with a weak splutter. I'm afraid that with Cuddy leaving it might have already entered weak splutter territory.

Yup you have a point! I hope the next season (last) will be a blast ;)

i dunno if i prefer series or a unique novel... i mean i love reading book series but then sometimes they just end up being boring or sometimes when their really interesting i feel like killing myself cause the other part isnt released yet and besides that there are series i loved so much! but hated the endings to, for example when i read vampire academy i loved it soo much that i finished all the books in a week! except for the last one as it was not released and i couldnt sleep knowing that i have to read it! and then when it finally came out i said i wouldnt read it! cause i hated the ending to it! the author seriously messed the last book!

and as for reading unique novels i really love them but then again i hate it cause i wanted to read more about those characters...

so in my point i cant exactly choose =/

I love reading series books. If I fall in love with the characters then I want more stories on them! And more of them in general!

I like reading book series but I dislike if they go past trilogy status. It begins to be ridiculous when what began as a trilogy becomes like six or seven books. By that time I'm bored to tears! I always love a unique, stand-alone novel.

You are right. Reading series has its downside if the author doesn't know how to keep up the action and suspense and NEW stuff, but on the other side a unique novel is kinda short!

totally agree! i love the suspense! but i hate it @ the same time!

With TV I usually prefer series and have been known to watch excessive amounts in one sitting. Books though I sort of prefer stand alone novels, the reason being that (unlike TV where they have a finite amount of time to tell you about the people/world) the author has no restrictions on how much they put in the novel, so one is normally enough to cover everything.

That said, if the author really has a good idea for another novel (rather than just cashing in) then it can be really nice to re-visit characters you liked in a previous novel.

I am a TV series addict too :P But I kinda like book series too!!!
