Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the Q & A for Nicole Williams, author of Eternal Eden and the soon-to-be released sequel, Fallen Eden. My reason for starting this group is to offer a platform where readers, writers and everyone in between can come together to share, ask questions, and hopefully learn something along the way. Please stop by and say hi, and I was thinking as a conversation starter, we could share who our favorite all time book boy is.

There's obviously plenty out there, but I'll readily admit I'm a sucker for a nice, sweet, wholesome boy (never went through that “bad-boy” stage!). It goes without saying I'm a fan club member/president of William Hayward, but to name a character I didn't pull from my imagination ;) it would have to be none other than our bread-making, Katniss-loving, Peeta Mellark. Do I need to explain why? I think not.

So drop us a line, introducing yourself and your favorite book boy!

Lexi | 2 comments Hi! I'm Lexi. I'm a law students who is addicted to Fantasy Romance (among other SCi-fi fantasy sub-genres).

There is no possible way to pick a favorite book boy! I just really don't think I can do it! To make a list would go on for days... Perhaps I am just a hopeless romantic, and I read far to many books! I, however, am enamored of guys with an edge, not the truly bad, but definitely intrigued by the "bad" or "emotionally damaged and in need of redemption" kind of guy.

Though I must concede that there is something wonderful about sweet nice and wholesome at times.

With both archetypes though one things is for certain.... the bar is set quite high for real-world guys!

Hey Lexi!

Thanks for stopping by and introducing yourself. I'm seriously impressed you're able to get so much reading done being a law student, it's not like your life's busy, right?!

I felt the same way about picking a book boy. What a dilemma, but one I didn't mind pondering!

message 4: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy (chrissyp) so this question (or a similar one) was asked on a FB page. My answer is Noah from the Notebook. (their question was favorite book lover). He was "wholesome and good" but also has a little bad boy in him. That is probably one book that the movie did justice.

GREAT answer, Christine! What an amazing character Noah is (he ranks high on my list, too!). Who doesn't love a guy that can't get over a girl, no matter how much time goes by?

Thank you for sharing!

Shari (sharik) | 9 comments Hi there,

I'm Shari - Canadian mom of 3 who are all in school full-time now, which frees up a bit of time to allow my reading indulgence ;. That indulgence seems to be heavily in the YA section of late. In my former (pre-kids) life I was a veterinary technician, but I've been a stay at home mom/school & figure skating volunteer/hockey team manager/committee chair/manage my husband's business/you-name-it-I'm-sure-I've-done-it for 10 years now. If you're good at math, you'll see that I'm not exactly a YA lol. I do love books from all genres but YA seems to be my most frequent stop.

I've had a writing bug and literature addiction since as long as I can remember - always writing poetry, short stories (and toying with writing a real book some day) and of course I'm always completely engrossed in reading. Which is more of an addiction than a hobby.

As for book boys... I'm not sure if I can name just one... there are so many lol.

My top 5 (in varying order depending which book I'm reading lol):

Jace Wayland - The Mortal Instruments
(James) Stark - House of Night Series
Daniel Grigori - Fallen Series
Nicholas - Talisman Series
Dimitri - Vampire Academy
and yes William Hayward

right I know that's six... oh well I could name more ;)

and if I go completely out of the YA genre into the Adult Fantasy genre - Rand al'Thor from The Wheel of Time is in there somewhere too.

Amber Clites (goodreadscomamberafterglow) | 6 comments Hi everyone! My name is Amber, and I'm a stay at home mom of two adorable little boys! I'm currently in the process of writing my first YA novel, and it is a long ardous project!

Since Twilight was my introduction to YA, a long while back at my baby sister's insistance, I have to go with Edward. He was my first YA love!

But if pressed I'd also say:
Jace- Mortal Instruments, Ash- Iron Fey Series, Lend- Paranormalcy, Dimitri- Vampire Academy, and of course William from Eternal Eden!

Shari-I feel exhausted for you! You are one busy lady, my hat's off to you. There are a couple on your list I'm not familiar with (Nicholas and Dimitri), but I'm sure I'll get to them soon! I totally get your *addiction* vs. hobby towards reading, I'm guilty of the same thing.

Chels-The Hunger Games is a book(s) I can't get enough of. I'm just re-reading the series again for the third time. Thanks for stopping by and good luck with your nursing/writing careers!

Beth-Thanks for stopping by and sharing Vision with us, sounds like a fun read! I still feel sixteen on most days, too!

message 9: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy (chrissyp) I commented on this post earlier but never formally introduced myself. I am Christine, working mom of 1 little 3 yr old boy. I have always loved to read but in the past 3 years (cough) I have been pre-occupied. My hubby gave me a kindle for Christmas and I am in the process of reading my 14th book this year.

Shari (sharik) | 9 comments Beth wrote: " I gravitated to YA due to the resilience, non-whiney, can-do-anything, triumphant nature of the characters...plus, I haven't ventured far from my sixteen year-old self...."

I love that - it sums up my gravitation towards YA books as well. Off to add Vision to my list :)

Shari (sharik) | 9 comments I have to add one more book boy to the list... Tristan Knight - Soul Savers series. Woooboy he's definitely in my top 5 (seven...I know I just can't decide lol). Soul Savers is a bit edgier than most YA series...it bridges between the YA and Adult sections.

I'm loving the variety here, ladies! I just realized that if a male joins this group, this question will totally creep him out.

So . . . if there are any men brave enough to take this journey with us, who is your favorite book girl? Easily as many heroines out there as heros!

message 15: by Angel Charms (new)

Angel Charms (angelcharms) | 2 comments Hey Everyone...I am Mallika. I love reading Paranormal Romance, mostly YA though I've read some adult stuff too. My fav book boy...hmm very hard to pick but I'll try with these (this can be a long list..I'll warn you).
1. Patch (Hush Hush)
2. Jace (TMI series)
3. Ash (Iron Fey)

6. Alex (Perfect Chemistry)
7. Shane (Morganville Vampires)

Oooo, good ones, Mallika! I totally forgot about Patch. What's not to love about a fallen angel who loves to wear black and can play a mean game of pool?

Welcome and thanks for stopping by!

Patch sounds intriguing. Going to have to check out that book. Thanks.

Amanda (amonika) Hi, I'm Amanda. I love reading a lot of different types of books (just not non-fiction) but have recently been spending most of my time reading YA Dystopian or Paranormal. I am also a mom of 2 girls and work as a Business Analyst full time. Data and I get along really well.

As for book boys, here is my list.

Loki - Trylle Series
Shane - Morganville Vampires
Nicholas - Talisman Series
Tristan - Soul Savers
Gage - Celestra
Peeta - Hunger Games

I typically like the boys that have a bit of an edge to them and have overcome something. Although Gage and Peeta are a bit more of the nice wholesome type.

I never even thought of Loki, but after I read that I thought about it. Loki was good, but for some reason, I was totally hooked on Finn in that series. I don't know why.

I would love to have more discussion about this because I think it is fun, but I don't want to spoil the books for anybody that hasn't read them yet. There is a reason why I like Loki over Finn, but I can't say it without giving some major spoilers away.

Christine...Before you venture Hush Hush, I'll have to warn you that if you didn't like Twilight or lean towards feminism, you might not like it or Patch.

Alston Alston (brandonqalston) | 2 comments Being the only guy in this group, this discussion is puts me in a weird place lol. So can I pick my favorite book gal? Hmm it would definitely have to be Katniss hands down, nothing like a chick that could totally take you in a fight (especially if she got her hands on that bow). If I had to pick a book boy then I suppose it'd be Damon from Vampire Diaries, you have to get a kick at how delightfully evil he can be at times

message 24: by Shari (last edited Jun 10, 2011 12:52PM) (new)

Shari (sharik) | 9 comments BB - If I were to pick a book gal, Katniss would rank high ;) She's everything a girl would want to be! lol. Damon Salvatore is one of my all time favourite characters, although I think that's been increased immensely because of the tv series character since Iam Somerhalder plays Damon so incredibly well. His wit is unmatched. The book Damon is delightfully evil but it's his vulnerability hidden deep beneath his many layers that makes him one of my favourites.

Hey B.B.- Sorry about that, I was worried about a guy joining and being a little creeped out by our conversation-starter! Thanks for rolling with it and picking your favorite book girl. Katniss is hands down my fav, too.

I got to send a shout out to BB for his novel, Grey Eyes, HUGE success (currently sitting at the number one slot on Amazon's YA Love/Romance category!!!). I'm only a few chapters in and can already tell why books are flying off the shelves.

Thanks everyone for sharing, I'm already adding new books to my TBR pile!

My other half on this account is Kaitlin. We both have personal goodreads accounts but use this one for our blog. :)

I'm a first grade teacher and Kaitlin works for a law office.

I can't answer for her, but MY favorite book boy would have to be Dimitri from the Vampire Academy series.

He is a badass who is passionate in his love. Even writing about him and the series makes me a little woozy. :)

Claire (clairenrooney) Hi

I'm Claire, though a lot of people just call me by my surname. It's easy to rhyme with and people probably also think I sprung into existence after Wayne Rooney became famous.

I'll read anything fun with a supernatural element, whether that's YA, epic fantasy or crazy science fiction... yeah, not a fan of reality.

I think my favourite book boy is a bit older, but he's still a boy in my eyes (even if he's now married). Matrim "Mat" Cauthon from Wheel of Time. He's such a... scamp.

When I was younger, I really liked Jesse Lansdon from the Timekeeper Trilogy (I think I might be the only one who has read that trilogy). He was always trying to be a grown-up, but he was a bit of a ditz in some areas. It was sweet.

I like Peeta in the Hunger Games. He's like a cuddly puppy that has moments of rottweilerdom. While the movie will be hard to watch, I'm really interested in seeing the actor's take on him.

Mat Cauthon is so much fun! A scamp is a very good term for him lol. I love how much he has grown in the series. Perrin too. All 3 boys have become far more than I ever expected. TWOT is one of my all-time favourite series.

Same here. It's going to be sad to see it finally end, but luckily there is PLENTY of good reading to be done, and no doubt, countless scamps for me to find.

I'm almost excited to see it end. I'll be sad for sure because it's been a long run with amazing adventure and I'll miss desperately waiting for the next book (hehe) but I am DYING to see where they all end up and I want to know if my predictions are right! Every sub-story and character's personal journey has been incredible to follow.

Alexandria (alexandriatheo) Hey Everyone! I'm Alexandria and I'm graduating college tomorrow! I spent too much of college normal reading instead of reading my textbooks but I don't regret the decision. Mostly because I met boys like

- Stark (House of Night)
- Jace (Mortal Instruments)
- Patch (Hush, Hush)
and of course the first of them all
-Edward (Twilight)

And I'm really excited to meet all of the other men you love as well :D

Andrea at Reading Lark (wynter_writer) Hello all! I have noticed the top 5 trend so I am going to jump on that bandwagon.

My name is Andrea and I am a 29 year old Social Studies & English teacher. Currently, I teach 8th graders. I love to read and write so I was so excited about this group. I am currently working on a novel, but I have no idea when I will finish it. I am beginning to think I am suffering from permanent writers block.

Now for the important part, my top 5 boys:

1. Emmett Cullen from the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer
2. Catcher Bell from the Chicagoland Vampires series by Chloe Neill
3. Neville Longbottom from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
4. Ren from Nightshade by Andrea Cremer
5. Shane Collins from The Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine

And a boy who is stealing my heart at the moment -
Calvin from the Spirit Guide series by E.J. Stevens

Loving seeing some of the underdogs mentioned here, and I think I'm pretty well convinced now that I have to read the Vampire Diaries (I know, I'm one of the few left on the goodreads planet that hasn't!).

So I re-read The Hunger Games series this past week and I have to add one more to my list: Finnick Odair. Jaw-dropping good looks aside, I find something so appealing about a man going nuts (literally) with worry because he can't protect/save his woman. Suzanne Collins creates such emotion-invoking characters, and I think Finnick is one of her masterpieces.

My long-term book boyfriend has been Damon Salvatore for more than a decade. I keep him locked in his perfect box, frozen as a glacier in time. So in other words, unspoilt by the recent revamp (haha) of the characters.

I can't believe I forgot to mention Finnick!! I couldn't agree more with the completely crazy thing about Anna(? I think that was her name). He was my favorite in the series by far and one of my favorites ever :)
Also I haven't read Vampire Diaries either and I feel left out as well. I'm excited to start it though.

Blaise (blaiseh) For those inspired to read The Vampire Diaries, please be warned it is not the CW TV show, they have nothing in common except a few names. And past the Dark Reunion, they are not even the same characters within the series. Just forewarning. Happy vamping!

Thanks for the info, Blaise! I haven't seen the CW show either, so I'm completely Vampire Diaries uninformed!

message 46: by Shari (new)

Shari (sharik) | 9 comments Absolutely - the Vampire Diaries book series and the Vampire Diaries television series are two completely different storylines. Most characters from the books are part of the tv series, yet they may not be as they are in the books (different paths taken). What I absolutely appreciate though is how the essence of Damon has not changed from book series to tv series. The stories may not be the same, but the Damon hidden beneath the many layers of self-loathing is. I enjoy both the books and the tv series, despite being completely different stories.

Rachel (rachjholland) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Rachel. I love books and I love lists, so, I couldn't resist posting.
Like you, Nicole, I always prefer the good guys to the bad boys (although, I have to say that bad boys have a certain appeal, too).

I do love so many already mentioned here: Jace and Peeta are among my favorites, as well as William Hayward, of course.

A couple that haven't been mentioned yet: Will Herondale (Infernal Devices Series), Astley (Need Series) and Darren from Grey Eyes (Forever Trilogy -Shout out to B.B.)!

So, for the girls I'd love to be, I really like the heroines who can take care of themselves. Katniss is top of the list. But, I also really like Katsa from Graceling. Gotta love a woman who can handle a knife!

Welcome, Rachel! Thanks for stopping by and I'm loving your list, and you're right, bad boys do have that certain appeal. I'm not sure if it's the whole dangerous thing or the way we women are suckers for hard-luck cases, but they most definitely hold a place in our hearts and make our reading so much more exciting!
