Welcome Princess! :) I have a lot of favorite books. When I was a teenager, I fell in love with Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I reread it a couple of years ago and still rated it 5 stars.
The first book that popped into my mind was The Giver. It's a book I think everyone should read at least once.

Occult themes!? Seriously? There is absolutely NOTHING occult-related whatsoever in The Giver. Wow. People are really small minded. :(
I love Little House in the Big Woods as far as kids books go, The Hunger Games and Harry Potter for YA and Water For Elephants for adults!
So many good books. I still re-read The Phantom Tollbooth, The Secret Garden, and The Little Prince. I still also recommend Mister God, This Is Anna, The Princess and the Goblin, and most works by
.
I don't know how anyone can have a favourite book. I struggle to come up with a top 10, and the smaller the number, the more it will vary according to mood and what I have read recently.However, the main contenders, in no particular order, are:
* The Castle by Kafka
* Little Boy Lost by Laski
* Titus Groan and Gormenghast by Peake
* Ghostwritten by Michell
* The Ballad of the Sad Café and Other Stories by McCullers
* Something by Iris Murdoch, possibly The Unicorn
* Something by Wodehouse P.G., possibly Summer Lightning
* The Importance of Being Earnest by Wilde
* The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Adams
* Something by Richard Yates, either Cold Spring Harbor or Revolutionary Road
I love the Lord of the Rings series and happily re-read them frequently. I also love The Riddler's Gift and Second Sight: Second Tale of the Lifesong by Greg Hamerton and you can't go wrong with Dracula in my book!
Whenever anyone asks me that question, the first book that comes to mind is Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. (The link is to the copy I actually owned--my heart gave a little leap when I saw the cover again!) I haven't read it in a couple of decades but the first time I read it I was pretty young, and it was the book I credit for turning me eventually into an English major and life-long book-a-phile. I really couldn't tell you why--but I just remember being so completely immersed in the story; reading it that first time was truly a magical experience. I've certainly had lots of books since that I loved or made me think or gave me a new perspective on life, but nothing has ever come close to having the effect on me that Wind in the Willows did. You never forget your first, LOL.
When I was a child and my dad took us to the library I would check out or recheck out A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett every single chance I got. And I remember taking it home and sitting in the window seat and being glued to it. That was my favorite childhood book.When I got a little older is was Gone with the Wind and I read the book before the movie and was unfortunately disappointed with the movie.
And now I love Diana Gabaldon's series with the first one being Outlander.

It didn't really grab me as a child, but my son was utterly absorbed in it as a small child. His first theatrical experience was an excellent stage version when he was not quite three, and thereafter we (I) read the book to him numerous times, acted out boating picnics etc. Lovely. He's 17 now though, so those days are long gone.
I had to mention this:Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China. I do not know if it is my favorite; there are so many to pick from.
I think mine will have to be Child 44 because it shocked me and it is an excellent read, The Pillars of the Earth because it was an amazing and wonderful story and I could not put it down,Between Shades of Gray this is a book that everyone should read and recommend to others as it never disappoints.
I have three series that make my all time favorites list...
the first is by Tamora Pierce (a favorite author of mine)- first book: Trickster's Choice
the second is by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes (another favorite)- first book: Hawksong
the last is by James Patterson- first book:The Angel Experiment

I think my favourite book is whatever is the one that I am reading at that moment if it carries me away and I lose track of time. ;)
I have a different favorites in a few different categories but if I had to state my absolute favorite it would have to be
. Few people have heard of that one and I am always promoting it to others. Very few people who DO read it agree with me on how fantastic the book proves to be.
My favourite book is by Wilson Rawls. It's called "Where the Red Fern Grows," and it's just such a wonderful story. :) It makes me cry every time I read it, and is the only book I have read more than once.
I have quite a few favourites but my all-time favourite book has got to be The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. It has a great storyline which really draws you in, some wonderful characters and Zafon's writing is just beautiful. It is also a book about books and really captures all of what it means to be a lover and reader of books. It's brilliant!
Yay Tasha! Have you read The Angel's Game or The Prisoner of Heaven? They are both good too, although not quite as good as TSOTW.
Favorite books are The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein, A Dog's Purpose and A Dog's Journey both by W. Bruce Cameron..I think I love dog books :)
