What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

This book was published in English at the end of the 1990s or the beginning of the century. It was written by a French author and was a bestseller in France. It features a (I think it was paraplegic) blind woman who solves a murder. She is also attacked. It was astonishingly good and was somewhat reminiscent of the film in which Audrey Hepburn starred, called Wait Until Dark.

Maybe Death from the Woods or Death from the Snows by Brigitte Aubert? I think they are part of a series with a parapalegic blind mystery solving woman, so it might be another title by Aubert.

Oh, thank you so very much! I think Brigitte Aubert is right. I will need to locate a copy of Death from the Woods again to be sure, but how many authors could have such an unusual protagonist? I was a bookseller when it came out and recommended it--to no avail--but could never forget it. I thought the author really took a huge chance, and it worked!

Okay, it IS Death from the Woods bu Aubert. I remember being in awe of a an author that would create a blind, mute quadraplegic as the main character, and so far at least, my feeling remains impressed. Am going to go through it again to make sure it is all I thought at the time. It certainly has staying power--It's been 10 years since I read it and many hundreds of books later, I can't forget it.
