Oh my heavens, it's easy to update an eBook - but getting amazon to tell the truth about why it was updated is impossible.
I added a new novella to "from the farther side of beyond," and stated that as the reason for the update and asked that they notify all who had purchased the book that they could download the updated version free of charge. The e-mail was sent and the reason was given as 'missing content.'
When I asked why there was the need to make authors look inept, I received an e-mail from someone whose name is all consonants. This person said he/she had sent out a corrected e-mail stating the REAL reason. To put it nicely, that was a fabrication. Soooo I contacted them again and that got me nowhere.
