November nominations please!
Tigana I haven't read this but I did buy it as it was recommended by so many people. I understand it is a stand-alone novel.

War for the Oaks by Emma Bull -- urban fantasy from the old days -- rock 'n' roll elves rather than sparkly vampires.
Anna wrote: "I'll second War for the Oaks"Make that three. This is one of my all-time favorite books.
Leah wrote: "Is there a theme this month or anything goes?"No theme. Read the introductory comments for rules.
Likos wrote: "The Darkness That Comes Before by Scott Bakker, first of "The Prince of Nothing" trilogy."I vote for this as well. I have been meaning to read this for ages now.

So are you seconding it?"
Yup...Should have been more clear :P
I will nominate Song of the Beast by Carol Berg, a superb standalone fantasy - NOT YA, NOT QUEST - and an excellent introduction to her work if you have not tried her stuff yet.
Rose wrote: "I would like to nominate the Blue Sword by Robin Mckinley.
"This says 'young readers'. Not sure it's appropriate for this time. We may have a 'young adult' theme month, if members vote for it.
I'll nominate Acacia: The War with the Mein by David Anthony Durham. This is the first in a very good series.
I'll third or fourth or fifth Tigana! It's on my TBR list and I am not allowing myself to get more books until I get the TBR list down to a reasonable number. Could use some help!

Seconded, or is it thirded... I have been meaning to re read this for ages.

The Blue Sword is a perfectly adult book. All the characters are adults, it has a fully formed world, with an interesting take on colonialism.
I second it.
I also second Song of the Beast. (I've been wanting to read more Carol Berg books ever since I devoured The Lighthouse Duology!)I was thinking of suggesting Of Blood and Honey, but with so many other (good) nominations already I might wait until next month :)

Well, I like Robin McKinley a lot, but since this book won the Newberry Award and another award for young readers, I'd say it fits the category 'young readers', so it doesn't qualify for this month's book. Sorry.

1. One nomination per person, otherwise we get too many books.
2. All nominations must be seconded.
3. Check the group book list to see the ones we've already read.
4. Authors cannot nominate their own books, please!
5. All books should be either stand alone or first in a series unless we've already read the first one.
Did I forget anything? I hope not.
Have at it!
ETA: Only books that are available in a variety of formats, please. Not everyone has ereaders or chooses to listen to audiobooks.
