Not at all happy, and no resolution, but quite a poignant portrait of a young Norwegian man who is too wrapped up in shame and anxiety to connect with others.

Chrissie Sho, I like that we can use these posts not only for good books but also to warn against bad ones.

I hope you don't give up on the author totally. I haven't read Curse the River, but I thoroughl enjoyed To Siberia for its theme of sibling relationships. I prefered it more than Out Stealing Horses. The latter is a perfect description of life in Sweden in the small villages along the Norwegian Swedish border. We use to stay in Dalarna, near Sälen, and the depiction of this area is spot-on. It doesn't matter which side of the border you are on. The atmosphere is the same.

I do want to read In the Wake. I was living in Sweden when the Estonian tragedy occured.

I wasn't clear in my little blurb--I gave it 4 stars, and I'm guessing I'd like his other work as well. However, I think (and the reviews on GR agree) that this novel isn't for everyone.
