Hi! Anybody out there? Is there going to be another book for November or was there a secret meeting and a decision to disband?I don't want to disband. I want to read another 21st Century book!
Hello?
Me too! I think maybe folks got bogged down with Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. I think I might check in with Matt to see if he's been too busy or has plans to open nominations for a December group read.
Where is Matt? Where did we go wrong! I want this book group bad enough that I would do it myself, but I don't know how to start topics and put up pictures of books and frankly i just haven't read as many 21st Century books as you guys have.OK, maybe its all very easy and I could learn in in a snap, I would still want someone to help me. I am really going to be very sorry for this but again I ask you: Are you out there? Logophile? Sophia?

I'm still here. Matt seems to be MIA. I'm not sure what we can do about the group. If Matt would be willing to take on a co-moderator or two, maybe we could get things going again here. Or we could think about starting up afresh in a new group with some co-moderators? What say y'all who are still around?

Just my luck..just joined and the moderator has gone on a walkabout! Is the group going to continue? I have absolutely no experience but do have two attributes that might prove beneficial...lots of free time and a love of reading (read an average of 10+ books a month).
Maybe those of us who are left standing can suggest some books and when we have a certain number we can pick 5 ( or whatever), then narrow it down to one and read and discuss that one for a month. Something like that seems be a template of the way other groups operate. How hard can that be? I'll suggest some books tomorrow.Matt! Come back!
I was hoping to find a little more active group so will depart. Good look in finding your moderator as the premise was good.
Here is a short list of books. I just googled best books of the 21st century. Some I have read and some I have not.The Kite Runner
Life of Pi
The curious incident of the Dog in the Night Time
Middlesex
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon
The Blind Assassin
Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
The Corrections by Jonathan Franzon
Freedom by Jonathan Franzon
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Anyway, there's a short list. Good ones all. lets read them together.

We've already read Middlesex in this group. And I personally have read a bunch of these (and some I wouldn't care to read again), but I'd be interested in The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.
Anyone else up for one of these two to start with?

Hi, Logophile-I've already read Kavelier and clay, and wouldn't mind going for Oscar Wao.
Do you want to do this just us two and hope other people show up, or do you want to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory? I don't know how the book pictures are put in the beginning of the discussion. It's probably simple, I just haven't given it a look yet. I must admit that ambivalence might be dragging me down a little. If others would just chime in. Clap your hands three times if you believe in a 21st Century Book Group!
I just joined as well, and while I see the mod is MIA, I'm interested in the topic, and would be interested in joining a new group if people decide to do so, and I'm willing to help out in any capacity as well if desired.
I've taken the initiative and started a new group, called "21st Century Literature." Maggie & Will, if you'd like to join me as moderators (or anyone else who is lurking), let me know. I think you need to join the group so I can give you moderator status.
The group home is here:
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/5...
Still under construction, until I figure out who wants to moderate with me.
Everyone is welcome to join. I think if you follow the "invitation" link below, you'll be able to join easily:
http://www.goodreads.com/group/invite...
And Matt, if you're still around, I don't mean to step on any toes! We all just need a place to keep the group going while you're on sabbatical!

Great! I had joined this group just before Matt went missing (or actually just after) because I was really attracted by the bookshelf, left the group when I found it abandoned and just re-joined it to be able to post this comment (life is complicated sometimes) I'd happily come join you over at the new group, so I guess this is me clapping my hands three times as Maggie has put it :) Also happy to contribute in one way or another if help is needed.
I'm so confused! I joined this group, joined that group. I anticipate there will be books and conversations someplace or another. Hi.
the issue is this group's moderator has gone MIA (I looked him up, he's still alive as of several hours ago, seems to be doing music blogging seriously, and watching doctor who) So in frustration, we've made a new group for 21th century lit, which will have a few mods so if one vanishes, the group can continue to read!
Hi--I would volunteer to be a moderator but my husband has but recently gotten sick and wound up In a wheelchair. Now I am a caregiver, which I don't mind, but I don't want to take on any new responsibilities to anyone for the time being. I am very eager, though to read and contribute. I can't wait to see what we are going to read!

I have a new blog called 'Hardcover Wonderland' on which I have reviewed both Kafka on the Shore and Let the Great World Spin so far-- http://hardcoverwonderland.blogspot.com -- Would love comments on my posts.
