I don't know about you all, but supernatural powers and stuff influence my daydreaming to a great extend...

Aurora (aurora_mandeville) | 53 comments Interesting . . . any powers in particular?

message 3: by Laurna (new)

Laurna (laurna) | 83 comments Mod
Yeah, there are some in particular.Powers like what they showed in Gakuen Alice...also when I saw Avatar I was influenced to include powers like fire, earth, air and water bending...!!:P

message 4: by Aurora (new)

Aurora (aurora_mandeville) | 53 comments Cool . . . elemental powers are fun to play with. :D I have a mythical creature species assigned to each element, and their kings cannot be harmed by those elements as well as being able to harness the power of the elements (the kings are usually human, sometimes gnome, nymph, shifter, or fairy).

message 5: by Laurna (new)

Laurna (laurna) | 83 comments Mod
Yeah, the concept "mythical creature species assigned to each element" is also there in my daydreaming...like a phoenix for fire, a dragon for air etc......!:)

message 6: by Aurora (new)

Aurora (aurora_mandeville) | 53 comments Cool!!! Though the phoenix and the European dragon share possession over fire in my daydreams. :D I also have the Asian dragons, which have control over ice and freshwater. Speaking of air, the creatures I have for that are the pterippi, which I found is the correct term for Pegasus.

How about ghosts, genies, fairies, etc.?

message 7: by Lise (new)

Lise (otakuliz) | 11 comments I'm jumping into this one too! It sounds fun! I've had a set of six Elemental Knights running around my daydreams for geez, I guess about five years now. Element magic is a great kind for framing stories; it's very orderly.

Nothing specific for ghosts,genies...but for angels the element light works very well . Ghosts usually represents something dark,mysterious....What about you??

Six elemental Knights...cool!!:)
What are those six elements...??
Let me guess..fire,water , air, earth, light and darkness...right? I may be wrong but those are what I would prefer....!!:P

Well, the first four are right. I used Sun and Moon for the last two. Some people suggested giving them simple "light" and "dark" powers, but I thought that made them pretty lame, so instead I ended up making Sun the element of energy and Moon the element of force. Which worked out, 'cause now somebody in the group has forcefields XD

Aurora (aurora_mandeville) | 53 comments @Laurna Well . . . in my daydreams, I guess you could say that there are several different kinds of angels; the Ankali - the ones you would usually think of as angels (bird wings, usually invisible), the Densi - something of a mix between angel and genie (can change into any shape, whether it be animal or humanoid), the Shagfasi - nymphs known for their ability to fly without wings and their deadly accuracy (closest species I have to elves), and the Fayosi - fairies who can change their sizes and are very creative.

The Ankali, the Densi, and the Shagfasi are usually associated with light, fire, and air, while the Fayosi are associated with different terrains (much like the nymphs in Greek mythology). You can tell which kind of Fayosi you are dealing with based mainly on their wings since they can leave their terrain for one reason or another. The most common Fayosi you'll come across are the Paveri (butterfly fairies, they take care of flowers), the Sicrali (lacewing fairies, in charge of weather), the Lineri (damselfly fairies, they look after freshwater and snow), the Menesi (bee fairies, they help farmers with their pastures), and the Xilloni (firefly fairies, orchards and groves are their main concerns). There are several more (a few are rather nasty-tempered since they are at odds with the rest of the Fayosi, usually best to avoid those), but those are the ones you would usually meet on the road.

As for ghosts . . . they're either giving someone they know a message from the spirit world (this would only occur if they refused to listen to previous messages given to them by an Ankali or a Densi, which is rather rare), they're unable to let go of this world, they're here as punishment, or they're up to no good. They are associated with air as well as both light and dark, depending on their purpose.

Gosh!So many angels and stuff! How do remember all this about them along with all the characters....seriously you have got an awesome memory...it not like that with me.....whenever I feel the need of an angel or a ghost I simply make them up on spot..!!:P

Aurora (aurora_mandeville) | 53 comments @Laurna . . . It isn't easy to remember everything, so I write down everything (that does help me remember, but I will forget a few things now and then so it's nice to have a back-up :D). There are tons of other stuff (it's turning out much like a mix of Lewis and Tolkien), like the Agpuchi (they're like a mix of garden gnomes and Santa's elves), the Gaudreni (mythical creatures, like dragons and unicorns), the Erhnomi (humans), the Migoni (merfolk), the Sehempi (centaurs), and the Caphyti (satyrs). (I was looking at one of my notebooks while I was typing this . . . see, it's even hard for me to remember, but if I keep writing it down and typing it, it'll become more ingrained into my brain :P).

@Lise . . . yup, Light is part of Fire for me, which makes Fire the top element (. . . sort of, Electricity would be a close second :D).

But you see I'm very lazy at these things....to write a story is different and to write all these details is different...I love to write stories...but writing these details are too much of hard work!!:P

message 18: by Aurora (new)

Aurora (aurora_mandeville) | 53 comments lol . . . well, I guess it's a little harder for me to get a full story (though I can do short stories . . . might have to just stick with that for now). But I do want to write a story similar to that of the Lord of the Rings since it has been one of the biggest influences on my writing (as sort of a thank-you, I guess ;). So, instead of Hobbits and Dwarves, there will be Agpuchi and Fayosi, instead of Elves and Wizards there will be Shagfasi and Sehempi, and instead of the Valar there will be the Densi and Ankali. Plus a few extras. :P

oh yeah, I'm talking about short stories...I also can't write a full story because once I start thinking it all come as random thoughts and it becomes hard to put it in sequence!! :D

message 20: by Lise (new)

Lise (otakuliz) | 11 comments Short stories are just easier, what with the more compact scope and being able to complete them in a relatively short amount of time. They're also good for experimenting with different genres. I've written short sci fi, but I could never do a whole book that way, you know?

It's really relieving that you understand....I feel pretty helpless when I'm in that situation...!!

I was thinking of posting a few of my own poems..so that people can read it and give suggestions....do you think it's a good idea?:P

Lise (otakuliz) | 11 comments Laurna *tired of human complications* wrote: I was thinking of posting a few of my own poems..so that people can read it and give suggestions....do you think it's a good idea?:P "

I used to write poetry, years ago, but at some point I realized I'm not very good at it, so I stopped XD But that's because when I write myself, I keep trying to fit into a rhyme structure, even though I know I don't really need it if I have a good rhythm. Habit :/

Go ahead and post some poetry, I say; I may not be very good at writing poetry, but I'm not bad at evaluating it (...English major...), and I'd be down with reading it :)

As for that comment long ago (my internet has been wonky) about sci-fi, I don't actually usually write sci-fi. I usually write adventure/fantasy type stories. Just, for some reason, when I was writing for my creative writing class in college last year, my ideas were sci-fi-esque (though I guess one was just "futuristic"). I too was kind of surprised I managed to write a sci-fi short story XP

I don't try to fit it into a rhyme structure cause whenever I do that my thoughts are interrupted and the poem gets stuck in the middle and it remains unfinished...you know, the flow of writing and thoughts...strange....:P

message 39: by Lise (new)

Lise (otakuliz) | 11 comments Thinking in rhymes can be a curse, too. Remember Princess Bride. XD

Hmm, it's definitely a romantic poem, but I like it. The language is clear and expressive, and the assonance at the beginning and end of the poem is a nice mirror and signal of completion.

If you don't mind a little bit of constructive critique, there was one thing I thought of. The rhythm seems a little bit random at times. Changing the rhythm as the poem goes on, even regularly, isn't necessarily bad, and I'm sure you did it purposefully, but certain things can make the changes in rhythm seem more deliberate. Like, for instance, mirroring the rhythm from the beginning of the poem onto the end (I'm a *big* fan of mirroring patterns XD ), staying with a particular rhythm pattern for at least 2-4 lines, stuff like that.
