Ha! Great question. Though I wonder when we try to pin it down and label it one way or the other, if we don't end up diminishing the story somehow. It has its share of tragedy, self-discovery, history (albeit fictional history), drama....
Maybe "psychological drama"??
I'm not sure Barnes & Noble has a category like that. Nor does goodreads. (I'm trying to figure out how I would classify the book I'm writing now. It doesn't seem to fit into a particular genre. So does it just become 'popular fiction'?)

It's not YA or paranormal, it's not mystery or suspense or thriller. It's not romance. What shelf does it belong on?
