Have you ever passed up or bought a book solely on the title or cover art?

Stacey Who does this? Me. For example, The Weird Sisters. The title does nothing for me, doesn't even entice me to pick it up and I'm not familiar with the author. I had no intention of picking this up, but I saw it at the library and I saw a good review by someone in our group.

Soooo I'm almost finished and loving it! Serves me right to judge a book by its title.

Melki I'm a sucker for a great title. Some of the best "titles" I've read over the years are:
.The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove
Lord Vishnu's Love Handles
Fingerprints of Armless Mike
and
Night of the Avenging Blowfish: A Novel of Covert Operations, Love, and Luncheon Meat
In most cases, the book has been just as good as the title.

Though I appreciate the artwork on many dustjackets, I can't remember ever reading a book because I loved the cover.

Laurel (laureljean) I've picked up books for both cover and title.

Liz I've definitely been enticed to read a book by the title. Jill Churchill & Christopher Moore are two authors that come to mind with eye-catching titles.

Sam (ecowitch) | 157 comments For me it's tends to be the title that gets my attention as a lot of the time the covers aren't visible, especially in second hand book stores where space is a premium. The most recent title to catch my attention before anything else is How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming by Mike Brown, it's just a superb title that really grabs you!

Gretchen (gkonkler5) I will pick up a book solely based on title and/or cover.

Like:
Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea
Another Bullshit Night in Suck City

Island of Lost Girls by Jennifer McMahon The Book of Dead Birds A Novel by Gayle Brandeis

Now I love those titles! I think I would have chosen them too if I saw them on the shelves!

Sam (ecowitch) | 157 comments I've heard of Are You There Vodka, but not the other one, right to ebay for the hunt...

Caroline (caro7) I do this a lot, but I am much more swayed by the art/design than the title. The ones with cheap art/design I normally pass up. The ones with an artistic cover and quality design I often take a second look at. One I can think of is When God Was a Rabbit. That cover is just gorgeous, imo (the cover with the kids and the bike, not the other one of the shoes, which I think looks very mediocre). I love cover art, which is another reason I dislike e-readers.
