RandomAnthony | 14536 comments What kind of first impression do you think you make?

1) I think at work people are thrown by me at first. I used to get the "aren't you a little young for this...and why are you a guy?" look from people (I teach people how to be teachers, by the way). I also dress like crap at work about 75% of the time, so I think some people don't know how to respond to the informality. But I can usually walk the teacher-walk, if you will, and do ok in the professional environment.

2) In social environments I think I come off as aloof, esp. at parties, etc. I think I have this look in my eyes that indicates I want to get away as soon as possible. Which I do. But only because I overload on stimuli and want to get away from it. If the environment is more relaxed I can do ok...like at a bar or with a smaller group of people or whatever.

And you?

Books Ring Mah Bell uh, I'm a fast talker.
(per RA!)

I imagine I appear like a nerdy, friendly, frumpy mom. that's my best guess.

Gåry! (garyneill) It sounds like Bells is a fast talker.

In the workplace, people generally stay away from me... my bill-payin' day-job entails being seen away from my desk quite a bit, so I purposely try to appear aloof and unapproachable... of course the people who KNOW me at that place find that to be hilarious.

Trying to maintain that air (sic) of aloofness that indicates I'm riding around on my Segway listening to my iPod while playing pool and eating free gourmet food and enjoying free massages when I'm holed up on the I.T. floor and having to leave the confines of that sanctuary is a complete and utter inconvenience.

outside, in the real-world... my first impression of me is that I'm awesome.

;)

Just because you said that, it's my first impression of you as well!

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Oh, I do have something: Everyone who meets is usually surprised at my age, saying I look much younger. I tell them it's because I don't have kids.

:)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I've been told that when I'm out at a bar I give off that I'm-wearing-a-sign-on-my-forehead-that-says "Fuck. Off" vibe. I've also been told that I intimidate, guys especially... with the explanation it's because "people can't read you." I don't get it - I think I'm a friendly, down-to-earth... In the same token, I know that I have an uncanny ability to get people to trust me/open up to me, and I develop rapport fairly quickly with strangers... explain that contradiction.

message 7: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Really? I don't see you as intimidating at all, Heiders.

Now I'm scared of you.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Noooo!!! Don't be scared of me. :(

shellyindallas I'm pretty sure I come off as a bitch. Probably because I am.

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments I never woulda guessed that about you, KD!

;)

People probably think I'm loud. I think I give off a friendly vibe. I sing too much.

To strangers I give off the "she's approachable and won't bite" vibe, so I end up hearing about people's lives a lot.

message 12: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell To spiders you give off the "I'm tasty" vibe.

Are you feeling better?

message 13: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Oh, Zoe, I swear a LOT, too...I think I'm a bad influence on people, esp. at work.

And Shelly is not a bitch.

Kirk | 154 comments I'm pretty sure I come off as a bitch dork. Probably because I am.*

*Yes, I'm plagiarizing Shelly. I'm lazy this a.m. Dorkiness is tiring.

Richard | 347 comments At first sight, most people are intimidated by me, because I look like I could be a member of the Aryan Brotherhood. Once I start speaking, they usually feel more at ease (some even take their clothes off). For some strange reason, babies can never take their eyes off me and always seem to like me straight off the bat. Perhaps it's the light reflecting off my bald pate.

message 16: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments It's the bald head, Richard. Babies think you're one of them! (As do the Aryans.)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I wish I made a first impression of being mysterious and intriguing.
But I'm pretty sure I just come across as being shy and smart, but kinda dorky.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

You didn't seem shy when I met you, Jackie. But I guess we already "knew" each other from GR. You seemed friendly and happy.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Sarah, you put me at ease right away. I was comfortable with you, because you seemed comfortable with me!
And you cracked me up with your stories, librarian.

message 20: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 5 comments I'm not sure what first impression I give - I know that when people met me they think I'm younger than I am. At nearly 25 I look about 18 and when I'm in my dance stuff with my hair scrapped back I look even younger. I hope that I come across as friendly and likable and I also have no fear of talking to people, I'm usually the first to introduce myself.
