I love L J Smith! I'm a huge fan, specially of night world and i love vamp diaries... but the more i read the books the less i likes the characters! Stefan's too much of a wuss, he should be standing up for his realationship with Elena like in the series. Elena's so selfish and full of herself! like in the return shadow souls its talking out her dresses how she's wearing the simplest but was by far the prettiest?! Ugh but love her in the series! Damons the only one whos pretty much the same! Anyway! rant over! :P what do you think???

L.J. Smith is a good writer but I didn't like book Elena one bit (except for the last part of the series - which was written by a ghost writer!) and Damon kind of creeped me out.
As the series went on it became a little too dramatic and crazy too quickly (it did eventually begin calming down though)
The TV Show: Flawless.

I much prefer the characters in the TV series. The Salvatore brothers are much better looking on TV than the way I pictured them from the descriptions in the book (the original book series, that is). I agree that the characters seem stronger and more likable on the show. I also agree that Damon is the only character that remains pretty constant between the two - and I like his character in both the book series and the show. I have read all of the books in the new series, even though it isn't written by LJ Smith, because of the TV series.
I like them both. I Love the books. Everything about it, but at the same time I love the characters from the tv series. And yes Damon does stay the same. but I think for me it's a tie. Maybe because I read the books before I watched the series but they are both great.
I prefer the characters in the TV show.
1) Elena is not so self centered...
2) Damon is much kinder but is still the "bad boy"
3) Stefan and Elena's realtionship seems to be gone!

i like them both. i think that the actors choice in the vampire diaries series was wise, especialy Ian. when i read about Damon in the story i picture Ian flashing that breath-taking smile in my head. the characters in the story are amazing, and the actors reassured that fact. all in all, i won't change a thing about the characters in both the seriese and the story.
I think if I had started with the books 1st I would connect with the characters more; but since I started the series first I am actually finding the books hard to get through. I just can’t relate they seem like different people, especially Elena. Admittingly I am only a few chapters in so I guess I need to keep going before I make my final judgment call.
I actually can't stand the books!
They seriously sucked lemons! lol
The tv series is by far superior.
(I read the books first btw)
I just found myself bored most of the time.
The only character I liked AND progressed through out the books and tv show, was......Damon!!!
Come on, did you really think the whole Angel thing and the story with the twin Kitsune was that good? PMSL
