Heather I have always wanted to read that one, I think I'll have to opt out this time though, Llana. I'm struggling with my own book challenges. Sorry :( But for the future, I think that is a great start!

Thats alright, I just started with this book because I have it and you have start somewhere. I thought a month would be long enough but maybe a month and half. I know people are going to be reading other books too. Maybe you can help me pick out next months book. I added a bunch of books to the group bookshelf see if you like any of them.

I have always found the Mona Lisa intriguing for several reasons two being Leonardo was my favorite renaissance artist and my birth day is August 21. The book is an interesting romp through the history of the Mona Lisa its theft and the importance it has played in history. What I found interesting was the different people that have coveted Mona Lisa and the effect she still has on people. She instills in people a devotion that leads them to shower her with flowers and hand written notes of adoration
Vincenzo Peruggia stole La Gioconda from the Louvre on the 21 of August, did he act alone? Did he have help? What were the reasons behind the theft? R.A. Scotti goes over the different theories from a romantic one, of one of La Gioconda’s lovers steeling away with her in the night to master criminal to a millionaire collector.

My only issue with the book would be R.A. Scotti habit to write long Guillaume Apollinaire, I found it a bit tedious but just as I was getting thoroughly fed up with it he moved on so over all a good book and good introduction to the Mona Lisa.

Heather August 21??? First I didn't know that was the date of the theft of La Gioconda from the Louvre. Also, I didn't know you and I shared a birthday! What a date...Leos rock!

Oh that’s awesome! I have known a lot of people with birthdays close to mine but never the same. Yes La Gioconda was stolen on the 21 but not discovered missing until the 22 and even then not to later in the afternoon once they realized that she wasn’t off having her picture taken.
